AWBS: Fall Semester 2017 Art Lectures: The Grand Tour
As expats and travellers, we are women that desire to discover and experience
foreign cultures through travel and welcome the exciting challenges of living abroad.
Did you know that in the 1700-1800s, English aristocrats took a “Grand Tour” to
complete their education? They travelled to the cultural centers of Europe to study
the art and architecture and brought their treasurers home to fill their country
estates.
Where did they go? What did they see? Let us join them in their travels and share
their discoveries! Maybe you will see these same inspirational works of art in your
travels abroad!
Fall Semester: (four lectures: one gallery visit/ tour):
September 18: Off to France: Preparation, Packing, Journeying
September 25: Over the Alps into Italy: Renaissance masters in
Florence
October 30: Seeking the Ancient & the Renaissance in Rome,
Naples & Pompeii
November 13: Beauty and Scandal in Venice

Art Historian Marcia Page gives our lectures. Her enthusiasm for art is contagious
and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge. Her expertise evolved over her 40
years of teaching Art History at TASIS England, and 30 years of leading Art
Appreciation to women like you through AWS and AWBS.
