Film
The main feature of the USA Football Game Film application is to easily view and share video with your
coaches, players and parents. Coaches or videographers can quickly upload gigabytes of video and
share the film privately and easily with other members of the team as well as comment on the film or
exchange the film with other teams.
Coaches will see an increase in productivity by coaching and communicating when they are off the
practice field. Players will spend more time learning and preparing outside of practice by watching film
and reviewing comments and instruction!
The USA Football Game Film application accepts virtually any video file format. We process the video
and stream it across the Internet as a WMV or MP4 file based on your device. Users can access the film
on your team using a Windows or Mac computer as well as on Apple iPad, Android based tablets and
mobile devices such as iPhone, Android, Windows Smart Phone or Blackberry device.
Users can also download the film to their device if the Coach allows it. This may be useful in situations
where the user has a slower connection or wants to create their own highlight videos. It is also useful
for coaches who want to back-up their film or burn to DVD.
When a film is uploaded to your team, notification is sent to the users telling them that the film is ready
for viewing. Depending on the user’s Profile settings, they can even receive these notifications on their
mobile device through text messaging if they so desire.
The USA Football Game Film application helps you to build the film library you always wanted by
allowing you to store and stream literally hundreds of full length games, scrimmages, training videos and
more.

they are looking for. To view Archived film in your team site go to the Film tab and click on View
Archived Film.
To view Archived film, simply click on the View Film link next to the film name. This will open the video

Film: Watching a Video
Once you click on the View Film link next to the film name a new page displays that will open the video
player and automatically start playing your video. Please note that you can expand the video if you
don’t need to work on or review Key Plays by clicking on the small arrow in the middle of the right hand
margin of the video player.
Playing Video on your Computer, Tablet or Mobile Device
For Windows desktops, the USA Football Game Film application uses the Windows Media Player plug-in
for all team members who are using Microsoft Internet Explorer as their web browser. This player
includes Full Screen and Volume controls as well as Slow Motion and Instant Replay. The Windows
Media Player plug-in is part of the Windows operating system and is standard on all IE web browsers.
We recommend that you use this web browser if it is available to you.
For all Mac desktops or any Windows desktops using Firefox, Google Chrome or other non-IE browser,
we use Microsoft Silverlight as our video player. Silverlight is a web plugin that allows users to view
video over the Internet similar to how Adobe Flash plays video. You may need to install Silverlight
before you can begin watching film. If so, you will see an Install Silverlight icon instead of the video
when you click on the View Film link.
Tablets such as Apple iPad as well as Mobile Devices such as Android and iPhone will view a MP4 version
of our film directly on their device. iPad users may use our main application; however, we have a
separate application for Mobile Devices. Please see Viewing Film on Mobile Devices for more details.

Film: Key Plays
Using Key Plays, coaches can make comments on any part of the video allowing easy and effective
communication with players and your coaching staff. You can use the Key Play feature to break-down
film, teach players during non-practice hours, prepare for an upcoming opponent, create highlight films
as well as point out important parts of game film to Recruiters.
The main Film List shows if a film contains any Key Plays. To view the Key Plays, click on the View Film
link in the Film List next to the Film Name. The film player will automatically show and the list of Key
Plays will be to the right of it. Simply click on a Key Play and the player will jump to that point of the
video and begin playing.
Your Key Plays will be shown in chronological order, but remember users can filter on either Category or
Title to list Key Plays according to the Category or Title you created. Users can click on a Key Play again
to repeat the Key Play. Key Plays don’t need to be viewed in chronological order; a user can click on any
Key Play and the film will go directly to that particular Key Play.
Adding a Key Play
To create a Key Play, simply click on New Play at the point in the video where you want to break-down
and/or comment on the film. Most coaches who are breaking down film will go back and forth over a
particular play before making a comment on the play. They may also view the play in Slow Motion to
further analyze the play.
USA Football Game Film Help | Film
8
When you are ready to make a Key Play, click on the video player’s Play button to pause the video and
then click on New Play. Once you have clicked on New Play, enter the following information:
Role: Is this comment for Coaches or Players? Players will only see comments marked Players.
Coaches see all comments.
Start Time: The start time is set automatically when you click on New Play based upon where
the video is playing at that point. It is easiest to pause the video at the point where you want to
breakdown/comment and then click on New Play.
End Time: The end time is currently set to the same point as the start time. You do not
necessarily need to enter an end time, as that capability is designed for a future release called
Create Highlights that will allow you to actually cut up your film.
Title, Category and Comment: This is where you can personalize the Key Play feature to outline
as much or as little information as you want. Keep in mind that you will be able to filter on
either the Title or Category in the main list of all your Key Plays.
When you are done entering your information, click on Update to save your Key Play.
Many coaches are using the Key Play feature to breakdown all of their plays in a game and provide
commentary as well. An example of this would be to use the Title to mark the type of play (ex. Offense
Run, Offense Pass, Defense Run, Defense Pass and Special Teams) and the Category to name the specific
play (ex. Wishbone 35 Counter). You would then enter your written commentary in the Comment
section. This feature can also be used to break-down scout film of your opponents.
USA Football Game Film Help | Film

Additional Thoughts on Key Plays
The Key Play component becomes very effective for teams when multiple coaches start breaking down
their portion of the film. Players and coaches can then filter on Key Plays to only look at the part of the
film they are interested in (Offense, Defense, Special Teams, etc.). This allows them to view parts of the
film within minutes instead of watching the film in its entirety
It is important to remember that creating Key Plays allows coaches to coach during non-practice hours.
Kids can look at scout film and see specific things that coaches want to point out as well as look at their
own game film and see teaching comments a coach has entered for them.
Key Plays do NOT show up on film you exchange with other teams. So there is no need to worry about
what you say in your Key Plays when exchanging that film with another team. Key Plays also do NOT
break a film up into individual segments. Users are still able to download the film in its entirety.
Unfortunately, Key Plays do NOT show up on the Apple iPad, Android Tablets or Mobile Devices. This is
because we stream the film to those devices directly as a MP4 file. Our player is not a part of the
process and thus we cannot attach comments to the film for those devices. We hope to offer this
capability in 2012.
Highlights and Scout Film
In the near future we will be releasing our Create Highlights feature that will allow you to select various
Key Plays from all of your film and create a separate video based on the Key Plays you have selected.
This is a great way to create an individual highlight film as well as a scout film showing all run packages
for example.
As stated earlier, Coaches will need to enter a Stop Time on each Key Play in order to be able to cut up
the film and create a new Highlight video.

Film: Upload Film
To upload film to your team, we require a computer file (video). No special video recording or editing
software is needed and no special camcorders are needed to work with us. A camcorder or video
process that can create a file and store it on a computer is all you need. To begin uploading your film, go
to the Film tab and click on Upload Film.
Complete the information on the Upload form and select the film from your computer that you want to
upload. We accept virtually any video format. Remember that the film needs to be under 4 GB in size.
Once you have completed the form and selected your video file, click on Upload Video button to begin
transferring the video from your computer to our server. You should see a progress bar displayed
showing you the amount of time remaining in order to complete your upload. Once the upload is
complete, the file will be optimized on our end and then posted to your team.
For more details and tips on Preparing and Uploading Film please see our Uploading Tips section of this

You can download film to your computer to view locally without an internet connection by going to the
Film tab and clicking on Download Film.
In the film list, click on the WMV link next to the film in question. The film can then be saved to your
computer. The film will be downloaded in a WMV (windows media video) file format.
You can filter on any column by simply selecting the drop down button to the right of the column name
and then choosing the filter you want to apply. You can also sort this list by clicking on any the column
header names.
Mac users will need to install a free QuickTime plug-in called Flip4Mac in order to properly view the
WMV video. Please see our help document Viewing Film on a Mac for full details.

well as the Title, Comments, etc. To modify the properties of a film or delete it, go to the Film tab and
select Manage Film.
A film list is displayed showing all of your film. Coaches can change the properties of the film as well as
who can view it. Coaches can also enter a new category for the film. This is a nice feature for wrestling
teams that want to categorize their film clips by player or weight level. Once you have made your
changes, click on the Update button to save your information. If a coach decides to delete a film, it is a
permanent action and the film cannot be recovered.
All film management activity is listed in the User Activity section of Team Settings.

use Silverlight as the media player which does not currently offer those features. You can go to full
screen on any video player by simply right clicking on the video and selecting Full Screen.
Q. When I try to play the film, it’s constantly buffering and will not play. What is causing this and
how can I fix it?
A. See the help page titled Unable to Stream Video/Buffering Problems.
Q. Can I change the way my film library lists the film?
A. Yes. You can filter your film list by Security, Film Title, Key Plays, Film Date or Film Length. Simply
click on the column header to sort by that particular column or click on the drop down menu next to the

USA Football Game Film Help | Film
16
Q. Can I create my own film Categories?
A. Yes. Our system gives you the flexibility to create your own categories in addition to the preset
options available upon upload (Games, Highlights, Scouting, Scrimmage, Tournament, Training and
Miscellaneous). Remember, you can filter on any category in the film list.
Q. What is Film Archive?
A. Film Archive is an additional storage section that will move any film out of your regular list of current
films so that your players and coaches do not have to muddle through a large list of film to find what
they are looking for. You can do this with old film that you’re not ready to delete and don’t need in your
film list. To Archive film, click on Manage Film, Edit the film in question, change the storage to Archive

Q. Can I download film to my computer?
A. Yes. You can download film to your computer to view locally without an internet connection by
clicking on Download Film and then clicking on WMV next to the film in question. The film can then be
saved to your computer. The film will be downloaded in a WMV (windows media video) file.
Q. Can I burn a DVD from downloaded film?
A. Yes. You can burn a DVD once the film is saved to your computer. Please note; however, that your
downloaded film will not be the same quality as the original film that is stored in your camcorder. If
you’re looking to create a high quality highlight DVD, you may want to work with the person who
uploaded the film to obtain the original high-def film. Film uploaded to our site needs to be encoded for
streaming over the internet so we do reduce the bitrate for that purpose.

Film Exchange
Our Film Exchange feature offers instant, online film exchange for your conference, league or
association. Whether you are part of a youth league, a high school or collegiate conference or a large
adult amateur league, we can set up a film exchange system to meet your needs. Eliminate the time
and expense of dealing with DVDs, couriers, shipping or travel to exchange your film with other coaches
by doing it online with the USA Football Game Film application.
Completely Private and Secure
Coaches have complete control over the exchange of film. Nobody outside of your team has access to
your film unless you exchange it with them. Players and Parents do NOT have the ability to exchange
film. Film that you exchange and film received from other teams in your league, conference or
association goes directly into the Scout Film folder of your system and is marked for Coach-only viewing.
Please note that any Key Plays you have entered on your film do NOT get transferred with the
exchanged film. Your Key Plays are completely safe and secure and only a copy of the original film is
exchanged.

other team in your league in order to set up a proper trade between the two teams.
To contact another team, go to the Exchange tab and click on Contact League Team.
Once you are the contact page, select the team that you want to send a message to. Then enter your

The contact page is a great way to discuss and agree on a trade, to ask teams for a specific film, etc. It is
intended to be used as a pre-trade communication tool so that both teams are in agreement and able
to then make a film trade.

Exchange: Exchange Activity
You can review a complete history of your exchange activity (both sent and received) by going to the
Exchange tab and clicking on Exchange Activity.
A full log will then be displayed showing you all of the film that has been exchanged out of your team as
well as all of the film that you have received from trades.
You can filter on any column by simply selecting the drop down button to the right of the column name
and then choosing the filter you want to apply. You can also sort this list by clicking on any the column
header names.
Note that film exchanges will only show up in the Exchange Activity page and will not show up in the
User Activity page located in the Settings tab.

Exchange: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do other teams have access to my team?
A. No. When an exchange is made, a copy is made of your film and then the copy is put into their team
site by our application. Coaches from the other team never have access to your team site or the film
stored in it.
Q. Can I take back an exchange after I have sent the film to the other team?
A. No. Once you send film to another team a copy of that film has been placed in their film library and
you cannot undo the exchange.
Q. Can anyone exchange film?
A. Only coaches of a team are allowed to trade film. The Film Exchange feature is not available to
Players or Recruiters and they will not even see this component when they log in.
Q. Are the exchanges one way or do I automatically get a film in return?
A. The exchanges are a one way copy of the film. You can memorialize your exchange agreement with
the other team in the Exchange Comments, but they will need to initiate an exchange in order for you to
receive their film.
Q. Where is the film that I received from an Exchange?
A. All film received via Exchange is initially located in your Scout category and marked as Coaches Only.
Once you receive a film, it is yours to change as you wish.
Q. How do I set up film exchange for my league or conference?
A. In order to set up film exchange for your league or conference, each team needs to have a
subscription to the USA Football Game Film application. We then create a league/conference exchange
system as outlined above where you will see a drop down menu of all the teams in your
league/conference.
Q. Why can’t I see all the teams in my league or conference in the Exchange menu of available teams?
A. Only active and trial teams that have been added to your league or conference will appear in the drop
down menu of available teams. It’s possible that the team you are looking for does not have an active
or trial subscription to our service. It’s also possible that the team has not yet been added to the
Exchange group. If this is the case, please let us know by emailing [email protected].
USA Football Game Film Help | Film Exchange
36
Q. Can I exchange film when it shows “pending” in my system?
A. Yes. Please note that your film is still not encoded and posted to your team so there will be a delay in
the exchange. Also remember that if the film is unable to be properly encoded, it may not end up being
exchanged. It is usually best to wait until the film is posted to your team first so that you have a chance
to view it before exchanging it with another team.
Q. Can I exchange with someone who is not part of the USA Football Game Film system?
A. Yes. When you make the exchange using the Non-League Exchange page, if the user does not exist in
the database, an invite email will be sent to them asking them to sign up for a free 10 day trial. Once
they create the team, you will then be able to initiate your exchange one more time and your film will
be successfully sent to them.

Recruiting
Often high school and junior college coaches are asked by recruiters and four year college coaches to
provide additional game film of specific players. Burning and mailing these DVDs can become a tedious
and time consuming process for the coach. Additionally, players do not want to see delays in how
quickly a recruiter can view their film.
Our recruiting component is designed to lighten the workload of the head coach. Unlike most recruiting
services, it is not designed to promote or market players for collegiate sports. Our service is designed as
a simple way to provide film access to a recruiter who contacts you requesting film of one of your
players.
Youth teams can also utilize the Recruiting feature to make a film available to a coach or person outside
of your team. This allows you to give access to the outside person for only that film without opening up
access to all of your films by adding him to your team as a Coach or Player.
How do I add Recruiters to my Team?
To add a recruiter to your team, go to Team Settings of the application and click on Manage Users. Add
the Recruiters email address as a member of your team and define his role as Recruiter. The recruiter
will then receive an email invitation and will be able to log into your team and view film that you make
available.
As a coach, you are able to specify which films are accessible via the Recruiting feature. This assures you
that the recruiter will only see films that you want them to see, while keeping other films in your team
safe and secure.

Recruit: View Film
When a Recruiter logs in, they will be immediately directed to the View Film section of the Recruit tab.
Once the Recruiter logs into your team they will see a list of films to view. Like the View Current Film
list, the Recruiter simply clicks on the View Film link to begin watching the film. Comments will show up
for the Recruiter as well allowing them to quickly jump to parts of the film.
You can filter on any column by simply selecting the drop down button to the right of the column name
and then choosing the filter you want to apply. You can also sort this list by clicking on any the column
header names.
Notice in the image above that when a Recruiter logs in, he or she can only access the film made
available to Recruiters as well as the Player Profiles. They are not allowed to see any other part of your
team.
USA Football Game Film Help | Recruiting

Recruit: Player Profiles
The Player Profile allows a coach or player to enter general information about the Recruit such as
Position, Jersey Number, First and Last Name, Grade, Height, Weight, Email and Phone Number. To view
Player Profiles, go to the Recruiting tab and click on Player Profiles.
Coaches or Players can enter in a profile. This information is then visible to the Recruiter and the
Recruiter has a way of directly contacting the Player. Unlike our previous release, the current version of
our application does not link film to player profiles. Thus, you can now make film available to Recruiters
without having to create a player profile.
A great way to make a full length game film more user friendly to a Recruiter is to add Key Plays in the
film. This will allow the Recruiter to quickly jump to parts of the film that you want to make sure they
will see.
If a Recruiter does log in and view a film, his activity will show up in the User Activity log in the Team
Settings tab.

Recruit: Manage Recruiting Film
To make a film available for Recruiters, go to the Recruiting tab and select Manage Recruiting Film.
You will see a list of films that are currently allowed for Recruiters to view and then below that is a list of
all of your remaining film. To make a film available to the Recruiter, go to the Film Library list and simply
click on the Allow link to add it to the Recruiter list. The film will then appear in the top list as well as on
the View Recruiting Film page. Likewise, to review a film from a Recruiter’s eyes, simply click on the
Remove link and the film will be removed from the Recruiter list and added back to your Film Library.
You can filter on any column by simply selecting the drop down button to the right of the column name
and then choosing the filter you want to apply. You can also sort this list by clicking on any the column
header names.
Note that Recruiters are able to view films that are marked as Coaches-Only or Players and Coaches.
The security role of the film does not matter to a Recruiter. The only way that the Recruiter can see any
film in your team is if you have added it to the Film Available to Recruiters list in the Manage Film
section.

your team.
Only coaches are able to access the Team Settings. This is where a coach or owner will make a payment

It is also where coaches will add or remove users from their team as well as review the User Activity log.
The User Activity log is a useful report that shows which users are viewing film, adding users and making
team modifications, etc.

Settings: Managing Users
To add, edit or remove a user from your team, go to the Settings tab and click on Manage Users.
From here you can add new users to your team, change their role or set them to expire as well as
remove them from your team. Users can be added as a Coach, Player or Recruiter. By categorizing
users, they will be confined to only view specific film and Key Plays.
To add a player to your team, click on the Add User button, fill out the information and then click
Update. They will then be added to your team and an automatic invite email will be sent to them
explaining how they can log into your team and access film.
Players are unable to view any coach-only film or coach-only Key Plays. They are also unable to access
the Exchange and Team Settings tabs as well as they are unable to change film properties or delete film.
However, players are able to upload film. We did this so that the videographer can upload the game
film without bothering the coach. We suggest that a coach get someone to video tape the game and
upload it to the website. This will save the coach a considerable amount of post-game time.
Coaches are able to do everything the owner is able to do, however, they are unable to remove the
Owner from the team or change the owner’s role.
Recruiters are only able to access the Recruiting tab and view film that is marked for Recruiters. They
can also view any Key Play of a film that is marked for Recruiters.

Settings: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I activate my account?
A. Go to the Settings tab and click on Subscriptions and Payment. Within that page you will find a “Click
Here to Purchase Team or Renew Subscription” payment link. We use PayPal for our merchant services
and we except most standard credit cards.
Q. How do I add users to my account?
A. Go to the Settings tab and click on Manage Users, then click on Add User. Enter the user information
and define the team role of the user then click on Update. The user will be sent an automated welcome
email with password and log in instructions.
Q. Do I need to enter an expired date when I add a user to my team?
A. No. You can always edit or delete users at any time.
Q. Why do I assign a user role?
A. The user role is important because coaches can decide to make film and key plays available for
viewing by “coaches only” or “coaches and players.” This allows you separate film and conversations
from various groups within your team.
Q. What role do I assign for a parent or family member?
A. Parents and family members have the same role as players.
Q. My users say they haven’t received an email with password after I added them. What happened?
A. Most likely, their junk mail or spam filter blocked the automated email from our system. We
recommend that you alert your users to the fact that you’re going to add them to the team system and
have them adjust their mail settings to allow mail from any address with @watchgamefilm.com. Please
also note that any user can have their password sent to them by going to the log in screen, entering
their email address and clicking on Email Me My Password.
Q. Why can’t I edit my users’ information?
A. Because the user profile is unique to the user and not your team. Users may be part of more than
one team, so we do not allow a coach to change a user’s name after the user has been created. Coaches
can add or remove users from a team as well as define their role within a team. If the user wants to
change their name or email address, they must do it within the User Profile tab.

User Profile
The Profile section of our Game Film application allows users to update their basic contact information,
reset their password as well as get an overview of all of the Game Film teams they are a part of.
The coach or owner of a team cannot change your User Profile information. They can only add or
remove you from their team. Your profile is unique to you but it is global across all of the USA Football
Game Film teams you are part of.
For example; let’s say you belong to three teams and you log into one team and change your profile so
that you receive film notifications via SMS. You will now receive SMS notifications on all three teams
instead of just the one specific team you were logged into when you updated your profile.
