There were concerns raised in light of the Graduate Attribute project initiated by campus. PASSED. New Course: CURRIC 739 Assessment and Data Use for Instructional Improvement (Tabled May 2014) All committee concerns have been addressed by department. PASSED. Movement of Theatre and Drama Undergraduate Curriculum to School of Education from Letters and Sciences (hereafter L&S). The plan for the transition is due to the Provost by November 1, 2014. The relocation is expected to be in place for student enrollment into School of Education Theatre and Drama beginning Summer Term 2015. Major requirements will remain the same; breadth requirements will be those for School of Education students. The GPA required for good standing and program admission will change from the required level of 2.0 by L&S to 2.5 as required by Education. Theatre and Drama will retain its Honors in the Major option. L&S will close the major to new declaration/admits at the end of Spring Semester 2015. All currently enrolled students will be allowed to finish up under L&S by May 2017, although they will be encouraged to switch over to SoE. Student Services for students enrolled through L&S services will continue to be provided by L&S; for those enrolling or switching to Education, those services will be provided by Education Academic Services. The Undergraduate Catalog will reflect this change, as these changes coincide with the regularly scheduled update cycle of every two years. The approval process starts with us today, from here it will be seen at the Education Academic Planning Council in November, and then at the University Academic Planning Council in December. T&D representative Jim Stauffer thanked Jeff, David, and all others who have provided the momentum for this move and for the speed at which it has been executed. PASSED. Program Change: Kinesiology Admission Policy Change The change affects Athletic Training and Exercise and Movement Science. The proposal is to remove Psychology 202 from the list of courses required for admission eligibility. Current policy requires students to complete this course by the end of the Spring Semester they are applying. Many students already have this course done through Advanced Placement, but others who do not sometimes have issues completing all the eligibility requirements. By eliminating Psychology 202 from the list of eligibility requirements for the two programs, it will be easier for students to meet eligibility requirements by the end of their sophomore year. Psychology 202 will remain a graduation requirement. PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 622 Structuring Secondary Schools for Adolescent Development (C&I approved) With the required addition of a grading scale this course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 650 Research Methods in the Learning Sciences The committee noted that for several of the Educational Psychology submissions, including this one, the Academic and Program information section began with a definition of Learning Sciences. The committee felt that was not necessary and, at least in the case of this course, identified the last paragraph of the “Course Content” section as being well suited for the description. Committee recommends that the department delete the section defining “learning science” and replace the description with the second paragraph of the course content description. With these friendly amendments this course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 651 Advanced Research Methods in the Learning Sciences The committee noted the same issue as 650 above. Recommended again that the department delete the paragraph defining “learning science” and replace the description with the second paragraph of the course content description. With these friendly amendments this course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 662 Assessment in Games and Simulations Course flagged by Curriculum and Instruction for potential overlap. TABLED. New Course: ED PSYCH 663 Design of Learning Environments Course flagged by Curriculum and Instruction for potential overlap. TABLED. New Course: ED PSYCH 664 Practice in the Design of Learning Environments Course flagged by Curriculum and Instruction for potential overlap. TABLED. New Course: ED PSYCH 669 Current Issues in the Design of Learning and Assessment This course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 811 Vygotsky and the Sociocultural Theories of Learning Possible overlap with Curriculum and Instruction. TABLED. New Course: ED PSYCH 812 Computer Supported Collaborative Learning Course addresses online and face-to-face learning using computers and other technologies. Prerequisite of Educational Psychology 301 represents basic knowledge necessary for course. PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 813 Embodied Cognition The language “advanced undergraduate/graduate level seminar” advertises this course as undergraduate level. That is problematic for an 800-level course. The committee recommends striking all references to undergraduates in 800 level courses. With that change this course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 814 Psychology of Cultural Learning The committee requests that language “we will not watch Borat” be removed from the proposal although it can remain in syllabus. They feel the language does not suit the more formal proposal. With that alteration to the proposal this course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 851 Design-Based Research in the Learning Sciences This course is PASSED. New Course: ED PSYCH 865 Advanced Seminar Design of Interactive Learning Environments The committee members noted the same issue with Ed Psych 650 and 651 here. Course flagged by Curriculum and Instruction for potential overlap. TABLED. New Course: CURRIC 713 Technology Integration for Teaching and Learning Course flagged by Educational Psychology for potential overlap. TABLED. With the friendly suggestion that it be cut-down fairly substantially, this course is PASSED. New Course: CURRIC 774 Literacy Research Methods It is noted that there is no required grading scale. The committee recommends that the phrase “required experience” be removed from the course description. With these changes this course is PASSED.
