INSTRUCTORS:
David Wilton:
Born in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, David moved to Scotland at the age of 4. He
began Highland Dancing at 5 years of age. Initially, he was taught by Linda Napier,
in Arbroath. After moving to Forfar, David continued his dancing tuition with
Frances Paterson and soon after catapulted to success by winning his first dancing
championship entered at age 7. In his career, he went on to win 192 championships
including 7 World Championship titles with the bulk of his tuition coming from his
mother, Delma Wilson-Cargill. David is a Fellow of the United Kingdom Alliance and
through this imparts his knowledge and experience to dancers throughout the
world as an instructor and lecturer.
Parallel to his dancing career David is a professional Bagpiper working full time as a Bagpipe Instructor
at The National Piping Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland and recently became the Pipe Major of Lomond and
Clyde Pipe Band
He had the idea to further the knowledge and practice of Highland Dancing around the world and so in
November 2015, launched the David Wilton Dance Clinics. Since that time, dancers inToronto, ON.,
Antigonish, NS, Calagary AB and Vancouver, BC have been fortunate to be able to attend one of his
Clinics in their area. We are most fortunate that a Clinic has been arranged for Ottawa on Nov. 06,
2016.
Delma Wilson:
Originally from Winnipeg and later Hamilton, Ontario, Delma has made
Forfar, Scotland her home since 1993. She is a Life Member of the SDTA
and is a Fellow and Examiner for the UKA. She has been on the Worldwide
Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing Judges Panel s ince 1978.
Delma had a successful dancing career with the highlight of winning the
Canadian Championship in 1970 at the CNE in Toronto. She has gone on to
have a successful dancing school with her pupils winning every major championship including
the World Championships 16 times. She had in fact a World Champion every year from
2004-2012. She also enjoys travelling and doing workshops and lectures in Australia,
Canada, New Zealand, Russia and the USA.
Bill Weaver:
Bill has a small successful Highland dance school he runs with his wife, Liz,
in St. Louis, Michigan. Bill is a pioneer of long distance teaching with many
of his students living in other parts of the U.S. and Canada and
Australia. His students have won most major Championships inc luding the
U. S. Inter-Regional Championship, the Canadian Inter -Provincial
Championship and the Adult World Championship.
Bill has been a member of the S.O.B.H.D. Worldwide Judges panel since 1976. He is a Life
member of the B.A.T.D. in both Highland and National dances, and a member of the
UKA. Bill has judged at most major competitions and Championships in the U.S., Canada,
Scotland and Australia and has also taught Highland dancing workshops throughout the U.S.
and Canada as well as Scotland and Au stralia. Besides teaching, Bill is also a popular piper
for Scottish Highland dancing competitions having piped at various competitions and
Championships throughout the U.S. and Canada for over 35 years.
Bill is also a co-author if a highly effective SOBHD Judges’ exam study guide and he also
has a highly sought after strength training and Plyometrics DVD called “Power Up” and is
the co-organizer of the highly popular World Highland Dancing Conference held tri -annually
in Las Vegas. Bill has a book to be released in the spring of 2016 called “Confessions of a
Highland Dance Teacher and Judge”. This 100-page book contains valuable Information
“About Participating and Competing in Highland Dancing for Teachers, Dancers and Parents
That Nobody Ever Tells You”.
David, Bill and Delma will be breaking dances down and addressing technique step by step.
It may seem like a long day but the dancers will be taking lectures as well.
Registrants should bring:
Proper dancing attire, dancing slippers, crinoline or practice skirt, sword, notebook & pen,
Hair tied back
re-fillable water bottle, healthy snacks, and a lunch.
