Place refrigerator magnet here! Dear Parents and Caregivers, In February Argillite Elementary is reviewing Habit 3: Put First Things First® & Habit 4: Think Win-Win®. Please help us by reinforcing these habits at home. Ask your child to share what they have learned about the 7 Habits to help them be successful leaders! Habit 3: Put First Things First I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized. Expect your child to use words and phrases like prioritize, most important, responsibility, “Put First Things First,” and planning in his/her conversations this week. You can encourage your child to be a leader by using some of this language at home. Books for young children that reinforce Habit 3: •The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey • G i n g e r b r e a d B a b y by Jan Brett •Sam Who Never Forgets by Eve Rice Habit 4: Think Win-Win I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. When conflicts arise, I look for a win-win solution. Expect your child to use words and phrases like “Think Win-Win,” sharing, “everyone wins,” and “being happy for others” in his/her conversations this week. You can encourage your child to be a leader by using some of this language at home. Books for young children that reinforce Habit 4: • T h e 7 H a b i t s o f H a p p y K i d s by Sean Covey • P e t e r ’ s C h a i r by Ezra Jack Keats •Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse by Leo Lionni Check out www.TheLeaderInMe.org for fun ways to bring the 7 Habits home. Check off two fun 7 Habits activities each week as your family completes them. If your student returns this form with all activities completed and signed by the end of February they will earn a special treat! Make a family schedule for the week. Spend time on things that are most important. At dinner, share with your family a goal you have set at school. Discuss family roles. What are the important things each person must do in their role this week? List examples of important vs. less important ideas. (e.g. homework vs. video games) Explain to your family what it means to have a Win-Win attitude. Everyone is special! Celebrate and share the strengths of each person in your family! It takes courage to express your ideas. Practice sharing your ideas about a decision with your family. Name some common reasons that keep people from creating a Win-Win agreement.
