We need your help to get things right for young disabled people KIDS and The Council for Disabled Children are looking for young people to join a regional team to help them get things right for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). 1 Who do we want? We are looking for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged between 12 and 21 living in North West England. We want those who want to help change things for other young people. We want people who want to have their opinions heard and valued. 2 The Regional Team? As part of the team you would: • • • Talk about your life and what it is like to be a young person with special educational needs and disabilities Say what you think about the things that are important to you Talk to professionals about how to improve things for all young people with SEND You will need to: • • • Come to regional meetings (either bi-weekly or monthly) Support with designing and delivering training for professionals Work together with both adults and other young people We will support with your travel requirements to take part in meetings and other regional activities. 3 Why get involved? We want children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to have a say in how they are supported and what services are available to them. We want children and young people with SEND to be involved in decisions about their own care and support as well as influence regional practice. You would: • • • • • Meet and work with new people Get to share your views and ideas Gain new skills Help to improve things for other children and young people with SEND Take part in meetings and training 4 How to get involved?
