Session Plan: Games
The following is a list of suggested games that will help stimulate heart rate, balance & co-ordination. Care must be taken at all times to ensure the safety & wellbeing of
children at all times. Not all children will develop at the same rate, try to encourage a positive relationship with physical exercise. Never punish children by making them
do extra exercises, as exercise should never be linked to punishment or chastisement. A good coach is a caring, understanding coach who can motivate children & show
leadership at all times. Of course, other games can be used, ensuring they are appropriate for the age group.

Game 4
Running ( avoid using term race)
Two feet, hopping across hall
across hall
Penguin- Upright, hands at side, walk Bear- on all fours, facing forward, head
on heels
up
Alternate leg hopping across hall
Monkey walk across hall
“Crab walking” sit on floor, hands
behind, take weight on hands and
feet and walk forwards triceps
exercise. Across hall
“Commando crawl” crawl across
floor keeping low to floor as
possible. Across hall
Pad tig- Coach chases everyone round
the hall holding a paddle, & “tigs”
them with the paddle. Once “tigged”
they drop out to side.
Freeze- Children run around outside
of the hall but form a inner circle.
(Possibly with music playing.)
Pads/Hoops at four corners to mark
areas.
Coach: as the children run Coach
shouts out a technique. For example
‘long stance’. When music stops
children have to run and stand by a
corner/pad/hoop and ‘freeze’ in the
technique.
Jumping reaching for pads
Jumping over pads
Dodgeball- With soft ball
Catch the tail- Variation on tig type
game: children have a ‘tail’ tucked into
back of trousers (belt possibly)
whichever child is ‘on’ has to catch and
pull out the ‘tail’ then that person joins
them and is also ‘on)
Catch the tail- Variation on tig
game: partners. One partner has to
catch and pull out the tail. This
variation is better for practicing
manoeuvring. Important to give the
rules first to ensure they understand
the game’s objective is ‘movement’
and agility.
Sleeping Tiger- Children lie in a
space on the floor with eyes shut.
Coach walks around the room at
random with a kickpad in each hand.
Children are told that when the
Coach hits the pads together, they
have to jump to their feet and do a
technique (example five punches) in
the direction they hear and kiap on
the fifth. Good game for
concentration and spacial
awareness.
Team building – teams to get across
the floor using a limited number of
pads to stand on. Team not allowed
to touch the floor – works on balance,
communication and teamwork
Mat 1,2,3,4- Four mats put together in a
square, coach nominates a number to a
mat (1,2,3,4), then shouts out 1,2,3 or
4, so they have to jump to that
particular mat. As they progress through
the ranks, this can be done in fighting
stance, left & right
Pad Race- Children divided into
teams of five of six in each. Start
with a pad at the front. First child
passes overhead, second under.
First child runs to back after
passing. Continue across width of
the hall. First team to get to a mark
sits down.
