Austenwood BC has two teams in Division 2 of League of 8 this season Each team are having a squad of 5 – 6 pairs and there are a few more players happy to act as substitutes. Division 2 consist of 10 teams, so we are playing 9 matches per team. Reports from the latest matches will appear on the front page, and then moved to this document. 170427 Bradshaw A vs. Austenwood A 7 - 13 (65 - 86). We needed to win 11 - 9 in order to win division 2, and we did. Most of us have had better evenings, but as a team we managed to win. Next year we will be playing in the top division! It 'may' be quite a challenge, but exciting. 170426 Austenwood B vs. Burnham C 7 – 13 (55 -72). It was an enjoyable match up against a very good team. With this result the B team finished the season as the 4th team in the 2nd division. A very good result, and a good improvement from last season. Well done to all team members and, in particular, very well done captain Chris Moir! Thanks for your hard work. 170418 Austenwood B vs. Loddon Vale A 6 – 14 (58 – 83). A good result for our team against the best non-Austenwood team in division 2. The result is helpful for Austenwood A, who now has a good chance of winning the division, and for Austenwood B, now on 100% safe ground, and will likely finish in the top half of the table with one more match to go. 170316 Chalfont A vs. Austenwood A 8 – 12 (72 – 87). It was an away match, but played at CSPCC, so no problems finding the venue. For a change we had no pre-dealt boards, so no hand records were available for Poste Mortem afterwards. A somewhat disappointing result made us move down from the top spot of division 2 to runners up with one more match to go. 170307 Maidenhead A vs. Austenwood B 5 - 15 (51 – 89). We were leading at half-time and continued well to the end. It was a very enjoyable evening in good company. We will probably finish on the top half of the table, but there are still two more matches to play. 170301 Austenwood A vs. Chiltern Edge A 9 – 11 (56 – 60). It was a very even match, with Chiltern Edge A 8 IMPs ahead at tea break. We managed to win the second half, but only with 5 IMPs, so we narrowly lost to a friendly team. We are still top of the division and will very likely finish first or second, to be promoted to the highest division next season. 170221 Austenwood B vs. Bradshaws A 14-6 (72-49). We enjoyed a very pleasant evening with excellent opponents. We were winning at half time and continued to score well to the end. 170216 Ascot B vs. Austenwood B 4-16. The final result was 98 - 49 to us, which is 16 - 4 converted to VPs. It was a match with a number of swings. 6 boards were 10+ IMPs and we lost 35 IMPs on 3 boards. In total we lost only 7 boards, and won 16, and 1 flat. As 'always' our 'Spare Pair' Neil and Keith had the best Butler score! We are still in the top of division 2, and have now three more matches to play before the season ends in end of April. 170118 Lane End A vs. Austenwood A 0 - 20. What an evening! Everything went our way and we won with a huge margin. Lane End A is indeed one of the best teams in our division. We won with 142 – 34, thus 20 – 0 converted to VPs. Is there anything more to say? Well, we are still in the top of division 2. 161130 Chiltern Edge A vs Austenwood B 11 - 9. Unlike our previous match, we now played an excellent first half, only to lose by 5 Imps in the second half. 161110 Chalfont A vs Austenwood B 9 – 11. After a very slow start and trailing at half time, we recovered our loss and went on to win by a very small margin. 161102 Burnham C vs. Austenwood A 3 - 17. We won comfortably away against Burnham C tonight. All our pairs had a positive Butler score. Nigel & Tony had a particularly great evening, though being late and coughing for 24 boards! We are still top of the table, and will be there over New Year, and in very good position to be promoted to the first division next season. Fingers crossed. This year we have a good team, not only good players, this making a huge difference. May I repeat myself? What a great team we have this season! 161025 Austenwood B vs. Lane End A 6 - 14. It was an intense and tough match played in a very friendly atmosphere in the Nursery at Chalfont St Peter's Community Centre. We were -17 IMPs at tea break, but managed to claw it back and finally we were the winners with 15 IMPs. All players deserve an acknowledgement for good play.
