3B Class Information Sheet
Autumn Term 2 Topic: ‘Festivals of Light’
Welcome back to our second Autumn term! This half term we will be learning lots of
fascinating things about Festivals of Light, linking in with RE, Science and DT.
RE –
We will be learning
about a range of
Festivals of Light,
originating from
different religions.
Science –
DT –
We will be learning
about electricity – how
to use it safely, and
how to construct
electrical circuits.
Building on what we
have learnt during
Science, we will be
designing and
making torches.
Our book for this half term will be ‘The Firework-Maker’s Daughter’ by
Philip Pullman and it will act as the focus for our Reading Journals.
HOMEWORK
Homework will continue to be completed in the green homework books
(given out on a Monday and handed in on a Friday).
Reading: Children are expected to read at least twice a week at home to an adult, and
the Reading Record must be signed by an adult.
Spelling: Spellings will be given out on a sheet every Thursday, to be tested the
Thursday after.
English: To be given out once every two weeks.
Maths: To be given out once every two weeks (alternate with English homework).
PE KIT
Children are required to wear a white t-shirt, navy or black shorts/skirt, and trainers
for PE. As the weather gets colder, children are encouraged to bring a navy or black
jumper and tracksuit bottoms, as PE lessons may still take place outside. PLEASE
ensure your child’s PE kit (and uniform) are labelled in case any items of clothing go
missing.
3B will have their PE lessons on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
This half term our sport within PE is football.
EVENTS
Children in Need – Friday 18th November – letter to follow with further information.
Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November 11 am – 2 pm – more information to follow.
Details on the year 3/4 Christmas party will be provided this later in the term.
LIBRARY
Our weekly library session is every Thursday afternoon. We recommend that children
keep their library books for 2-3 weeks, and have it in school with them every
Thursday in case they have finished it and wish to change it.
WATER BOTTLES
Children are encouraged to bring water bottles to school to have a drink at the start
of day, play times and lunch times. Please ensure that your child’s bottle has water in
it (not juice), and is labelled.
For any parents/carers I did not get chance to meet at the October parent
consultation evening I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My
name is Miss Brown, and I am delighted to inform you I will be your child’s teacher
during Miss Berry’s maternity leave. Some parents/carers with older children in
school may have seen me in school last summer when I taught year 5 during
Wrenthorpe’s amazing Road to Rio charity event.
If you would like to say hello or there is anything you would like to discuss with me, I
am always available to talk at the start and end of the school day, or you can make an
appointment through the school office if you prefer. Thank you for your support.
