Bishop Edward Gaines Catholic School School Newsletter Term 4 Week 5 2015 Kia ora, Kia Orana, Maloilelai, Talofalava, Kumusta, Greetings to you all. Special Character Focus: PRAYER – KARAKIA IN THE FAMILY-WHANAU AND AT SCHOOL Learning to pray begins at home in the family. Prayer is one of the main ways people develop their relationship with God. It is one of the skills that people learn with their families. Simple prayers at bedtime and grace before meals are the powerful beginnings from which children learn to build a life of prayer. Styles of prayer have changed in recent years. For children the emphasis has been on spontaneous prayer during class prayer at school. Children learn to pray simply and come to use prayer more as a conversation with God. Spontaneous prayer comes very naturally to children and gives them freedom to communicate with God in their own way. However, traditional prayers have not been forgotten. The Religious Programme we teach at school still includes many of these in their lessons. As a school we have focussed on developing a different range of prayer experiences with children. These have included meditation, liturgical dance, imaginative prayer and praying with music and art. It is our hope that these different styles of prayer will deepen and enhance our students’ relationship and communication with God. Prayer Intentions: For former student, Venessa Numanga, who is still in Starship Hospital Principal’s message I hope you’re all enjoying the warmer weather and sunshine. It certainly seems to improve our mood and general outlook on life. We’ve received news that Pacelli Class need to be moved out of their classroom by Friday 20th November. They will be transferring to the Library for the remainder of this school year and also for Term 1 2016. We would be most appreciative of help to take down our interactive whiteboards and data projectors in Pacelli and Roncalli classrooms. If there are any Mums, Dad’s or extended school family who are willing and available to help we would be most appreciative. Please let me know (Miss McGuigan) if you can help out. We’ve sent home a Strategic Planning survey on a blue form for each family to fill in. Your ideas, comments and feedback will be most appreciated in helping us to self-review and plan for the future. Safety in our School Carpark Please be mindful of the speed you are driving up and down our school driveway. 15km please at all times. Also, our school has a smoke free policy. This policy also covers private cars on our school property. Athletics Each day, after morning tea time, our students are taking part in RUN, JUMP & THROW athletic activities. We are having a lot of fun while developing athletic skills with modified equipment that’s more child friendly. Could girls please have some shorts to wear for completing the running and jumping activities in particular.
