New LED Technology brings lighting to a whole new level yet remains the most
complex in terms of light drivers, light engines and Optics. In order to fully benefit LED, it is essential to consider the most important factor, thermal cooling.
LED is a cold light source due to its small heat production, but the thermal limit
of LED is also low and thus, it affects the performance and longevity of the lamp.
The higher the LED temperature is the lower the light output thus reducing
the life time, performance and overall efficiency.
The output of LED (in Lumen’s) is stated by the LED manufacturers at 77°F /
25°C. The bench temperature is taken on a pulse of current too short to heat
the die or light platform. This is what we call “raw lumen” because the LED is
calculated as if the chip produces no heat which is unrealistically higher than
the real output. In normal operating conditions, when we turn on an LED work
light, the LED heats until it reaches a stabilized temperature. This temperature
affects the output and the life time of the LED. GEOVISION® always specifies the
real light which is coming out of the lamp to help guide you in choosing what light
is best suited for your equipment as all work envirnments are not created equal.
