Costa Fruit & Produce will be the exclusive New England foodservice distributor for
Newman’s Own® Organic Produce.
Consumers first learned of the Newman's Own® label back in 1982 when Paul Newman
introduced his salad dressings to consumers. Since then, Newman's Own® has expanded its
product offerings to include such items as spaghetti sauce, popcorn, lemonade, and barbeque
sauce, just to name a few.
In 1993 Paul Newman’s daughter, Nell Newman, started Newman’s Own® Organics with the
goal of offering customers “Great tasting food that happens to be organic”. Newman’s Own®
Organics’ product line includes chocolate, popcorn, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cookies, and
coffee.
The company is now introducing a line of high quality organic produce. Scheduled to arrive in
early January 2005, the initial organic line will consist of romaine hearts, baby peeled carrots,
baby spinach, baby arugula, and baby spring mix. Costa Fruit & Produce will be the exclusive distributor to foodservice
establishments throughout New England and will also include a number of Newman's non-produce items to compliment the
line.
Because Paul Newman donates all his profits and royalties after taxes for educational and charitable purposes, the new line of
organic produce has been described as produce with a purpose. He has given over $150 million to thousands of charities
since 1982.
