Karen L. Doehring was truly a professional in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences. In the few
years before her sudden death at age 28, Karen had already been a model for her fellow professionals.
Her willingness to promote the profession was shown by her service on boards and conference
committees and her involvement with the meetings of several Family and Consumer Sciences related
organizations to which she belonged. Karen was constantly growing professionally and encouraged
others to do the same.
This scholarship is designed to encourage and assist others in professional growth. In doing so, the
memory of Karen Doehring lives on through others. This would greatly please Karen.
Any student doing GRADUATE work in a Family and Consumer Sciences-related field is encouraged
to apply. (NOTE: Applicants must be a member of AAFCS and live in District I and/or attend school in
District I). The application will be evaluated on

• membership in AAFCS/ILAFCS
