Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic Sign Cooperation

Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic Sign Cooperation Agreement
Engineer Miguel Torres, president of the
Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de
Puerto Rico (CIAPR), announced the
signing of a cooperation agreement with
the Colegio Dominicano de Ingenieros,
Arquitectos y Agrimensores (CODIA) in
order to tighten even more their
professional relations and encourage the
exchange of knowledge between both
organizations.
This agreement was signed at CODIA’s Headquarters as part of the recent commercial
mission of CIAPR to the Dominican Republic which was organized by the Puerto Rican
Trade and Export Company. This collaboration agreement has the main purpose of
developing mutual cooperation in projects related to professional development and
continuous education in both institutions. In other words, research and outreach projects of
mutual interest, consultancy services, seminars, courses, workshops and other activities
that strengthen the practice of their member associations are within its framework.
“By complementing what our Dominican colleagues have with the knowledge about the
American market and its standards and regulations that Puerto Ricans have, engineering
companies in the Dominican Republic may, in turn, open those doors and develop even
more the potential of engineers and land surveyors from the Caribbean,” stated Torres
Diaz.
Engineer Torres remarked, “As part of the collaboration efforts between Puerto Rico and
the Dominican Republic, we are looking for ways to join efforts with other professional
organizations in order to develop, explore, and internationalize Puerto Rican companies
that offer engineering and land surveying services to other countries such as the
Dominican Republic.”
Among other things, the agreement expects to increase the exchange of information about
research, publications, and other support materials for the technological transfer of
knowledge about engineering and land surveying in both countries.
Engineer Torres Diaz said that this will open new doors to many of the 11,500 engineers
and land surveyors who are members of his institution. He added: “We are living hard
times in our economy and this type of collaboration gives us the opportunity to strengthen
our business relations with other countries and keep us ahead in a highly competitive and
globalized market as well as provide us with a huge growth potential.”
