In most sewage treatment plants there is a Clarifier (or more) at the end of the process. The effluent first goes through an aerated tank that contains a large amount of necessary bacteria that was grown for the purpose of decomposing the organic compound of the wastewater. After several hours, this bacterial-­‐loaded sludge effluent is evacuated to the final Clarifier. The clarifier is used to extract the sludge (containing both bacteria and protozoa) from the water. The treated water then is released back to the environment. To prevent dysfunctions like sludge bulking, excess of Phosphorus, usually chemical compounds are added (coagulating compounds). A research in the phenomenon of sludge floating made by Mr. Gilles GALICHET led to a discovery that has shown that Phosphorus levels increase about 12 times to it's normal in only few minutes after the sludge has been staying in anaerobic conditions (often before 2,5hours). This biological state is simultaneously happening when up-­‐climbing parts of the sludge in the Clarifier is observable. Using that discovery, Densiline engineered an innovative product, the SPEED-­‐O-­‐

a global analysis of the clarifier’s dysfunctions, the implementation of the SPEED-­‐O-­‐CLAR System, according to the specific characteristics of the clarifier, the guidance of the fine tuning of the station after the implementation. This process enhances more than 50% the global efficiency of the sewage treatment plant and allows a bigger input of untreated wastewater. It reduces the output of phosphorus by 90% as throughout the process, specific bacteria, called Polyphosphate Accumulating Organisms (PAOs) are selectively enriched and accumulate large quantities of phosphorus within their cells (up to 20% of their mass ). When that enriched bacterial biomass is separated from the treated water, these bio-­‐
solids have a high fertilizing value. Wastewater may contain high levels of chemical nutrient compounds such as Nitrogen and Phosphorus. The excessive release of these compounds to the environment can lead to a buildup of nutrient-­‐based organisms, a phenomenon called Eutrophication, which encourages the overgrowth of Algae and Cyanobacteria (blue-­‐green algae).
