In most sewage treatment plants there is a Clarifier (or more) at the end of the process. The effluent first goes through an aerated tank that contains a large amount of necessary bacteria that was grown for the purpose of decomposing the organic compound of the wastewater. After several hours, this bacterial-­‐loaded sludge effluent is evacuated to the final Clarifier. The clarifier is used to extract the sludge (containing both bacteria and protozoa) from the water. The treated water then is released back to the environment. To prevent dysfunctions like sludge bulking, excess of Phosphorus, usually chemical compounds are added (coagulating compounds). A research in the phenomenon of sludge floating made by Mr. Gilles GALICHET led to a discovery that has shown that Phosphorus levels increase about 12 times to it's normal in only few minutes after the sludge has been staying in anaerobic conditions (often before 2,5hours). This biological state is simultaneously happening when up-­‐climbing parts of the sludge in the Clarifier is observable.
