Case Study for Wright Mind Training Services

Growth Hub Business Support Case Study
Wright Mind Training Services Limited
The Humber LEP Growth Hub Programme is provided through North Lincolnshire Council. Through free
business support, it aims to assist local businesses to create new employment and improve business
growth and development. Businesses are encouraged to work with highly qualified and experienced
Business Advisors to explore potential improvements in areas such as finance, marketing and sales.
Business Advisors carry out diagnostics for each individual business and provide a full written report.
Group workshops are also provided. To qualify for the free business support, the business’ head office
must be located in North Lincolnshire, it must have less than 250 employees and have a turnover of less
than £50m.
One business to have benefitted from the free support package is Wright Mind Training Services Limited.
Deborah Wright formed Wright Mind Training Services after working in NHS mental health services for
over twenty years. The aim of the business is to promote positive mental health through education and
fun. Deborah is an approved Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England Instructor and delivers the MHFA
Standard and Lite workshops to people in the public, private or voluntary sectors. Deborah works with
Associates who specialise in areas such as self-harm, suicide awareness, drugs, alcohol, dementia and
personal development.
Deborah initially heard about the free business support through a recommendation from Clark James
Healthcare – a business that had already successfully benefitted from using the programme. Deborah
has a training venue within the Clark James business premises which is available to hire. Deborah was
impressed with the Growth Hub Business Support being free and commented “setting up a business is
difficult and, even when the concept and path is set, good business support is beneficial”.
Deborah explained that her Business Advisor helped her “keep up the momentum it takes to establish a
new business” and she found the advisor “very supportive in turning my vision into a realisation.”
Deborah had already established all her key ideas. The Business Advisor helped in rationalising the
thought process and setting clearer goals and key objectives. A Diagnostic Report was drawn up
identifying priority areas for Deborah to concentrate on which, at the time of the meetings, was focused
on marketing. Deborah still refers to the Report to assess the company’s growth and direction. Deborah
said, “The Business Advisor was a good listener, had sound business knowledge and was very
supportive and non-judgemental.”
Deborah feels that the business support has helped her continue positively on her way. As the business
grows and progresses Deborah hopes to expand and employ new staff in the future. “This support is
invaluable for new businesses – the Advisor was supportive, professional and non-critical. I cannot
recommend it highly enough – overall it was a positive and beneficial experience.”
