Digit 5 Manual (Draft) NB! The Digit 5 only works on the JHB server http://196.38.40.52/digit If you do not have a JHB server login please contact Digicell to create one. The Digit 5 front panel looks the same as the D3 and works with all old harnesses as per the older models, except for the old 8 wire tagging harness. The D5 has a rear 14-way connector port which needs the optional back plate if you require access to the functions available on the rear. The optional 14-way harness has many uses and the pin-outs can be programmed for more than one function. NB! (Subject to temperature range and cable type) The temperature probes are available from Digicell. Connect as follows: Pin 3 (Orange/Black) and pin 9 (Green/Yellow) must be connected to each other and then connected to the Green on the probe. Pin 10 (Black) must be connected to Black on the probe. To connect the temperature probe you will need the 14-way rear harness although only three wires are needed. Driver ID tag The driver ID tag now connects through the rear 14way connector. You can connect the harness only at the rear (No front connector is required.) The 14-way Tag harness requires only 3 wires to be connected. Red (solid red) Black (solid black) Yellow (solid yellow) Although the harness is supplied complete, the other wires can be taped away for future use or pulled out one at a time using pliers. You will need to make the following connections: Permanent Positive (RED wire) – pin 14 Ground negative ((Black wire) – pin 10 Ignition on (Yellow wire) – Pin 7 Then if you require a starter lock-out (vehicle won’t start until tagged) then you will need to cut the start wire from behind the ignition switch. Then use the brown and white wire on the relay (Thick wires) to connect the start circuit. The white wire should connect to the ignition side and the brown wire should connect to the vehicle wiring. Installation The first step is to ensure that all parts will fit well in their planned spots. Once you have chosent the correct place make a hole for the tag receptical. (Hole dia 20mm) The nut for the receptacal does fit over the cable and connector. There is a trick to removing it. Part the wires at the back of the 14-way connector and fold them to the sides and back. Then the nut will pass over the connector easily. (See pic) Starter cut-out Identify the start circuit behind the ignition key. (This wire should only measure 12V while the vehicle is starting.) Cut the wire near where you would like to attach the thick brown and white wire. TEST to see if the vehicle can start. (The dash lights should come on but the starter motor should not crank over. Then connect the white wire closest to the ignition switch and the brown wire to the other end of the cut harness. (Try start the vehicle again, it should start, even though the Digit is not connected.) Now connect the Red, Black and Yellow wires correctly. (NB make sure the position where you connect the yellow wire, measures 12V when the ignition is ON as well as while STARTING the vehicle.) Finally connect up the Digit device and retest for full function of the TAG system. You will need to tell the Digit 5 that you are using it as a TAG unit. Send the following SMS: 1234TAGS=2 Function: Turn the vehicle ignition on. The receptical should light up and if fitted the buzzer should sound. If the starter lock-out has been enabled then the vehicle should not start. Touch the TAG to the receptical. The light should go off, buzzer should stop and the vehicle should start. If you swith off for less than one minute the vehicle should start normally again without tagging. SMS commands: Over and above all the old commands the Digit 5 has a number of new commands. 1234TAGS=1 (To reset a device to only send the temperature) 1234TAGS=2 (Set a device to send the driver ID tag) 1234TAGS=3 (Device will send the driver ID tag as well as the temperature) 1234RELAY=ON (Turn the internal relay ON) 1234RELAY=OFF (Turns the internal relay OFF)
