Which of the following sink in water or float on water surface and why ?
1. Coin
2. Oil
3. Cork
4. Iron nail
1- Coin and iron nail : sink in water bec. there densities are higher than that of
water .
2- Cork and oil : float on water surface bec. there densities are lower than that
of water .
Activity : to make a model of the simple electric cell :
Tools :
 A large lemon .
 A small compass .
 A copper wire .
 A zinc rod .
Steps :
1. Press the lemon to increase its juice .
2. Dip the zinc rod & a wire terminal into the lemon .
3. Coil the wire around the compass and tie other wire terminal in the zinc rod.
Observation :
 The needle of the compass deflects .
Explanation :
 When two different metals ( zinc & copper ) are dipped in an acidic solution ( lemon juice ) ,
the chemical energy changed into electric energy .
Activity 1 : the movement of particles & temperature :
Tools :
1. A small metallic spheres
2. Plastic jar .
3. Thermometer .
.
Steps :
1. Put the spheres in the plastic jar & record their temperature first .
2. Close the jar tightly , then shake it from 20 – 30 times then determine the temperature at the
end .
Observation :

The temperature of the spheres increase .
Explanation :


Spheres movement & their friction with each other causes temperature rises .
Temperature rises as the speed of spheres increases as the kinetic energy of the particles
increases .
Conclusion :

Kinetic energy converts into heat energy by friction .
