Compressing the air, expanding the ideas. MAGELLANO Refrigeration compressed air and gas dryers Airflow capacity from 22 to 190 m3/min FAD 20°C R407C ® ® Love is in the air Cooling, drying and caring. EN V L TA ONMEN IR RING 50 Hz R407C CA THE PROBLEM: condensate • It washes away lubricant oil from tools and equipment causing more rapid wear and an increase in maintenance costs. • It corrodes pipelines creating rust particles and others which then get carried downstream to the pneumatic equipment. • In spray painting it can spoil the finished product and create sites where corrosion initiates. • In sand or shot blasting it can block nozzles and cause rapid oxidation of the treated surface. • It is potentially dangerous in pharmaceutical applications. • In the electronic industry it can simply not be tolerated. • In pneumatic conveying it creates blockages and contaminates the product itself. For example: a compressor with an air intake of 3.600 m3/h, at 25°C ambient and relative humidity of 60%, will also be drawing in a considerable quantity of water vapour. Almost 37,9 l/h will be eliminated by the aftercooler at the outlet of the compressor, but this still leaves a further 19,5 l/h which can be removed by a refrigeration dryer to provide technically dry air with a pressure dewpoint of 3°C. Microprocessor TDC: Total Dry Control Microprocessor control PcO Xs The main operating parameters of the dryer are shown in the dual display at all times. Under normal conditions both the dewpoint and compressed air inlet temperatures are shown in numerical format. The graphic icons make reading of the various values and main alarms quick and simple. Four control keys complete the user interface. Functions: • Visualisation of the following parameters: - unit status - air inlet temperature - evaporator outlet temperature - time and date • Control of the compressor status and Energy Saving function. • Monitoring and display of the main parameters of the air and refrigerant circuits. • Self diagnostic system. • Alarm system on air and refrigerant circuits. • Digital input for remote ON/OFF. • General alarm relay. • Alarm memory storing last 50 recorded events. • Record of the main parameters of the air and refrigerant circuits at the moment of each alarm event. • Password protected reset of event memory. • Weekly programming option. • Multilevel menu with password protection. • Easy connection to a PC. • Options on request: • Remote alarm system via GSM • “PlantWatch” system • Connection to a PLC system (Modbus, LonWorks, Profibus, Bacnet, Metasys, Trend) • Remote display kit (max. 200 metres). Some parameters may be simply and rapidly adjusted by the user, helped by the dual display showing both the name and the value of the parameter in question. With TDC there is also the opportunity to connect a second terminal for full remote control of the dryer while connection to a Building or Energy Management System can be achieved with an RS 485 port using the MODBUS protocol. Functions • Monitor air inlet temperature; • Monitor air outlet temperature (permanently displayed); • Monitor dew point temperature (permanently displayed); • Management of timed drain opening and interval times; • Management capacitance drain; • Management of up to 15 alarms; • General alarm relay; • Digital input for remote ON/OFF; • Multilevel menu with password • RS485 serial port with MODBUS-RTU protocol; • Alarm memory storing last 50 recorded events with password reset. ® Plus Approvals Casing • Cataphoresis treatment of the manifolds; • Option of centrifugal fans; • Option of copper-copper coils for marine enviroments; • Condenser coils on one side; • GSM system. All MTA dryers are designed, manufactured and marked to CE standards. The casing is made from galvanised steel finished with an oven-baked polyester powder coating in RAL 7035 white. Key locks provide easy and controlled access to the control panel and electrical compartment. Refrigerant circuit Condensate drain Models from MG 022 to MG 110 inclusive have a single refrigerant circuit with one refrigerant compressor, while models from MG 150 to MG 190 have a single refrigerant circuit with two compressors. The refrigerant compressors are of the fully hermetic reciprocating type with anti-vibration mountings. The cooling capacity is controlled by a refrigerant hot gas bypass valve, which maintains a constant dewpoint under all load conditions. On models from MG 150 to MG 190 the capacity is controlled by a combination of the hot gas bypass valve and, when possible and to save energy, the alternate cycling of the two compressors. The condensate drain is either a timed solenoid valve or alternatively a capacitance drainer. Both systems are complete with isolating valve and strainer. In the case of the timed drain the opening and interval times are set via the microprocessor control while the capacitance drain has its own management system with any faults signalled via the display on the main microprocessor control. The condensate drain manifold is made from carbon steel. Heat exchanger High efficiency compact aluminium module containing: • Air/air heat exchanger. • Air/refrigerant heat exchanger (Evaporator). • Demister type condensate separator with AISI 304 stainless steel mesh. Highly efficient and compact, it permits a modular construction satisfying the technical demands of the whole range. Principle of Operation: The compressed air enters the air/air exchanger where it is pre-cooled by the cold dry compressed air leaving the evaporator. It then passes to the air/refrigerant exchanger (evaporator ) where it is cooled to the final dew point temperature by the evaporating refrigerant. The condensate produced during the cycle is separated in the high efficiency demister separator and drained. Finally the cold dry air passes back through the air/air heat exchanger where it is reheated in contraflow by the warm wet inlet air. The cooling required for the compressed air to attain the required pressure dew point of + 3°C is produced by the refrigerant circuit with its capacity control system automatically and rapidly responding to any variations in the flow rate and inlet temperature. Control Panel The ergonomic design of the control panel layout ensures maximum ease of use for operation and maintenance. Controls are on the front panel of the dryer and comprise: • Distribution board with mains isolator. • Control devices: - High pressure switch. - Fan pressure switch (only for air cooled versions). - Low pressure switch for models MG 022 – 110. - Low pressure transducer for models MG 150 – 190. - Refrigerant pressure gauges. - Air pressure gauge (positioned at the rear). • Thermostat on the refrigerant compressor discharge. • IP54 protection grade Condenser The position of the refrigerant condenser, located at high level on one side of the dryer, provides optimum maintenance accessibility with the minimum of space requirements. For models from MG077 to MG190 inclusive, there is the option of condenser cooling air intake filters for enhanced performance in dusty or dirty environments. • Air cooled versions: the condenser coils comprise copper tubes with aluminium fins and a galvanised frame, complete with axial fans and safety grilles. For marine environments condensers with copper fins and brass frames are available as an option. Centrifugal fan versions are also available where ducting of the condenser airflow would be of benefit. • Water cooled versions: the condensers are of the stainless steel brazed plate heat exchanger type. All models can be supplied with a water flow regulating valve for control of condensing pressure.
