Ms. Wachowski Earns Social Studies “Teacher of the Year” Award The Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies awarded Jen Wachowski the 2015 WCSS Distinguished High School Teacher of the Year. The award recognizes educators for their outstanding instruction as a social studies teacher. Recipients of the award must utilize social studies strategies that foster inquiry and the development of social studies in and out of the classroom. Lastly, this recognition is awarded to professionals that have an on-going interest in improving their knowledge and skills in social studies instruction. Ms. Wachowski is currently in her 10th year at Mishicot High School where she teaches a variety of classes including Advanced Placement and most recently has been accepted to be an AP Reader this summer in Louisville, Kentucky. SCHOLARSHIPS A current listing of scholarships can be found in the guidance office and on the MHS Guidance webpage http://www.mishicot.k12.wi.us/hs/currentscholarships.cfm We have linked the scholarship pages for UW schools on the web posting and also included criteria for scholarships and any other online links we have available. If an online link is not working, students need to stop in the guidance department to pick up the applications. Just as a reminder—these applications are like a job interview—neatness and completeness count! All applications should be typed!! Typewriters are available in the guidance office and the high school library. . April New sletter Page 3 Congratulations Ms. Propson I am excited to announce that Ms. Propson was one of 20 teachers to be selected for the WI Ag Ed. Association DuPont training session this summer. After a pool of candidates for the National training (two held yearly with a cap of 25 teachers) the state leadership decided to host a similar summer long institute in the state and invite Wisconsin teachers to apply. Applications flooded in as this is the first year of the program. Even more exciting is that Ms. Propson is only one of two teachers with less than five years experience to make the cut. Most of the teachers selected have been teaching for many years. Ms. Propson is very excited to represent Mishicot at this institute! The goals of the institute are listed below: Goals include: . Provide teachers with educational resources and inquiry-based teaching skills to implement science-based activities in the classroom for environmental science, food science, sustainability and ag biological sciences. Share lesson plans, laboratory exercises and teaching strategies in order to improve the resources available to teaching agriscience. Train and influence the next generation of future employees who will advance agricultural sciences to the next level.
