When you have finished each day you will get a code word. 6. At the end of the week you will have 5 code words. Put them together and this will tell you where your school’s Maths Week treasure is. 7. This triangle of numbers was named after Blaise Pascal who did a lot of work with this in 1653. Pascal was one of the most famous and talented mathematicians. He invented the calculator among other things! Task One. Look closely at the numbers in Pascal’s Triangle. Copy the triangle of numbers into your maths book. Try filling in the blank gaps. Task Two. Which whole number never appears in Pascal’s Triangle? Task Three. Have a look at the numbers in your Pascal’s Triangle. What patterns do you see? List them! Task Four. Add up the numbers in each row and write them down. Is there a pattern? Task Five. Calculate the value of 11 x 11. Calculate the value of 11 x 11 x 11 Calculate the value of 11 x 11 x 11 x 11 Did you use Pascal’s Triangle to get these values? Task Six. Hockey stick numbers. Look for hockey stick numbers in Pascal’s Triangle. One stick has been shaded in. How many can you find? Copy out Pascal’s Triangle and shade in some of the hockey numbers. 1 + 3 + 6 + 10 = 20 Blaise Pascal. When you get all of today’s tasks correct show them to your Teacher and you will receive today’s clue to the treasure! Now make up the sentence and find the treasure!!
