the Sponsorship Letter

April 2017
Santa Maria Arts Council
The Santa Maria Arts Council invites you to partner with the valley’s oldest arts grants program,
the Arts Council’s Individual Grants in the Arts Competition and Showcase.
To date the Council has awarded $273,600 to 366 artists since the grants program began in 1972.
This year the Council will award a total of $13,000 to the brightest emerging artists in the greater
Santa Maria region in the fields of dance, drama, music, and visual arts.
Your financial support will assist in producing the culminating Showcase night of entertainment
recognizing the winners in this competition to be held Monday, May 15, at 5:30pm. You’ll have a
chance to meet the artists and be amazed by their talents today while helping them to fulfill their
dreams of tomorrow. Funds raised for this event go directly to the associated costs of the evening
with all remaining proceeds going back in the Grants fund.
Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated with special recognition for donations of $100 and
more.
Each year the grants are awarded in the name of an individual or individuals who have made
significant contributions to the arts locally. This year’s Honoree is William J. Cirone, Santa Barbara
County Superintendent of Schools. Among his arts advocacy, is the establishment of the Children’s
Creative Project which reaches more than 65,000 children county wide with performance and
visual and performing arts workshops.
The Arts Council – a 501c3 organization - was founded in 1965 with the mission of supporting and
encouraging the expansion of the arts in our community. In addition to the Individual Grants
Competition, our programs reach school age children through the spring Student Art Show, as well
as grants for ongoing educational projects provided by schools and local non-profits with the
Lester B. Hayes Grant, the recipients of which will be acknowledged at the Showcase on May 15.
And, we are continuing to find avenues of expanding the arts in our area for the enrichment of our
community.
Thank you for your support of the Santa Maria Arts Council.
