Housing Market Report NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ESTATE AGENTS HOUSING MARKET REPORT September 2016 For further information: National Association of Estate Agents Press Office 020 7566 9777 [email protected] Housing Market Report September 2016 Housing Market Report: HOME BUYER CONFIDENCE BOUNCES BACK TO PRE- BREXIT LEVELS KEY FINDINGS Demand for housing rose by 16 per cent in September, to a similar level seen in June earlier this year The number of sales made to first time buyers (FTBs) fell to the lowest level seen since November last year Supply of available housing dropped marginally in September The number of sales agreed increased to an average of nine per branch last month Demand from house hunters rose in September, reveals the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) September Housing Market Report. HOUSE-HUNTERS Average 333 house hunters registered per branch in September, an increase from 287 in August The number of house-hunters registered per branch rose by 16 per cent in September, from 287 in August. This is now at a similar level to that seen in June, when there were 330 house-hunters registered per branch. This is now the lowest level seen since November last year, when 21 per cent of sales were made to the group. While one in ten (12 per cent) estate agents think sales to FTBs has stalled post-Brexit, two fifths (41 per cent) haven’t seen a change to FTB activity since the referendum vote. Further, over half (52 per cent) do not expect Brexit to influence the number of sales made to the group in the future. 35% 30% 25% 20% 15% 10% 5% 0% Figure 3: percent of sales made to first time buyers HOUSES SOLD AT ASKING PRICE Last month, three quarters (76 per cent) of the properties sold per member branch went through for less than the original asking price – the same amount as August.
