Carnegie Learning, Inc. is a leading
publisher of innovative, researchbased math curricula and professional
learning for middle school, high
school, and post-secondary students
and teachers. We help students
succeed in math, creating a gateway
to graduation and preparing them for
21st century careers through
textbooks that support a
collaborative, student-centered
classroom and real-world problem
solving and our research-based
Cognitive Tutor software.
Cognitive Tutor® software is selfpaced built upon an artificial
intelligence component that
understands the most common errors
and strategies in problem-solving and
then prompts the student to adopt
more successful, efficient strategies.
A student’s progression through the
software is based on mastery of
individual skills. By adapting to each
student’s learning style, the software
is able to present relevant, effective
problems to help the student to
effectively build mastery.
A significant component of this model

IC Teams:
Training in
Instructional
Consultation,
Assessment and
Teaming (ICAT)
automated student assessment to
teachers. Diagnostic and benchmark
assessment tools capture the model’s
impact on student achievement and
instructors can generate easy-to read
reports so that they are always aware
of student progress.
Instructional Consultation Teams
represent a way for schools to
organize and deliver services to
support students and teachers. By
restructuring and refocusing
resources, all students achieve
academic and behavioral success
within the general education
environment; teachers assume the
primary role of planning and
accounting for student performance,
and schools allocate resources
through accountable decision-making
procedures.
The goal is achieved through four
critical objectives:
•Develop a systematic support
network within each building,
including a trained IC Team
Facilitator and a trained Instructional
Consultation Team
•Enhance teachers’ skills in and
application of best practices of
instructional assessment and delivery
•Develop school-wide norms of
collaboration and problem-solving
•Utilize data for classroom and school
decisions

EBI Criterion
The MathForward™ Program from Texas
Instruments is a systemic solution that
promotes the effective use of sound
content and pedagogy, within a context
that offers the necessary supports to
teachers and to students. TI’s
MathForward Program was created to
 eliminate the achievement gap
among diverse student populations.
 increase the learning opportunities
and improve student achievement
for all students, regardless of
achievement level, ethnicity or
socioeconomic status.
 build on a school district’s existing
investment in standards-aligned
curriculum resources, rather than
requiring adoption of a new
curriculum.
 build a school district’s capacity for
self-sufficient, sustainable and
scalable systemic change in
mathematics education.
The catalyst for the program has been
the introduction of TI-Navigator™
Classroom Learning System and the TI73™, TI-84™ and TI-Nspire™ graphing
calculators, which are intended to
increase student participation and
engagement in rigorous mathematics
and inform both students’ teachers and

EBI Criterion
Reading Apprenticeship (RA) is an
instructional approach designed to
help middle and high school
students become successful readers
and learners, particularly in contentarea classrooms. The Reading
Apprenticeship model seeks to
develop the literacy skills of
adolescents by expanding "the
academic, creative, career, and civic
opportunities of young people
through higher-level literacy
development". Reading
Apprenticeship is not limited to a
narrow set of instructional
strategies, rather it is grounded in a
theoretical model that profoundly
affects the classroom setting,
instruction, and learning.

Recovery is to dramatically reduce the
number of first-grade students who
have extreme difficulty learning to read
and write, and to reduce the cost of
these learners to educational systems.
