This is first of three competitions that will be held in 2016 for the engineering construction industry. Nine teams will take part in this year’s competition which will take place at Cranfield’s Bedfordshire campus from 22 - 24 January. Included in the line-up is an all women team from the ECITB hoping to make their mark at this year’s first event. Other teams entering the competition are: Amec Foster Wheeler, CB & I UK Ltd, Fluor Limited, Jee Limited, KBR, McDermott Marine Construction Limited, ODE Limited, Saipem Limited. The prestigious competition is managed by the ECITB’s Engineering, Design and Procurement (EDP) team in collaboration with Cranfield University’s world-renowned School of Management. Now in its 20th year, this hugely popular inter-company competition has received consistently strong support from industry. The competition is run as an intensive three-day programme which is both physically and mentally demanding and the result is a truly fantastic and unique learning experience. Commenting on this year’s competition, Phil Jefferies, regional account manager for the ECITB EDP Region said: “We are delighted to welcome competitors to this year’s ECITB Project Management Competition. I am especially pleased that an all-female team from the ECITB has been able to take part. I wish them and the other teams the very best for the competition.” Teams taking part manage a project from concept through to completion. The competition enables teams to experience the whole project management process, such as engaging in key negotiations with a client as well as providing additional learning on calculating earned value within a project. The competition tests a wide range of project management skills and the goal is for a team to make the most profit against their initial cost. Competitors must demonstrate that they have operated in accordance with the ACTIVE Principles. Over the last 20 years the competition has gained huge momentum and support. The ECITB believes that the success of the event demonstrates that it has found an interesting and innovative way to engage current and aspiring project managers in mastering their profession, as well as sharing best practice. Bill Johnson and John Algar who run the competition at Cranfield said: "Cranfield is delighted to work with the ECITB and to manage this demanding competition on its behalf. We always look forward to the enthusiasm and energy of the teams as they face this tough challenge and we are rewarded by the long term learning they take away with them at the end of the weekend.“ The ECITB, leader in developing training standards and qualifications for the engineering construction industry supports the professional development of project managers, supervisors and engineers. It plays a key role in developing the workforce needed to deliver vital infrastructure projects across all engineering construction sectors including, new nuclear and renewable power systems, and engineering projects in oil, gas, chemicals and refining. A second ECITB competition will take place in Aberdeen in February and the third final competition for the year in June at Cranfield. -EndsNotes to editors: Dr Rachel Odams Head of Corporate Affairs Engineering Construction Industry Training Board E: [email protected] M: +44 (0) 7896 550858 T: +44 (0)1923 402150 Follow us on Twitter at: www.twitter.com/ecitb_skills About the ECITB Established in 1991, the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board’s (ECITB) mission is ‘Securing Engineering Construction Skills now and for the future’.
