Audiology Department Queen’s Hospital Tel: 01708 435000 Ext 3577 What you need to know about your Child’s Play Audiometry test If your child is three years old or under, it may not be appropriate or possible to carry out the hearing test on the same day as the outpatient appointment with the specialist. This would mean that we would offer an appointment on a different day, when we would allow more time and have the support of two Audiologists. The test would be play orientated and would enable us to gain your child’s confidence and trust. We would be able to condition your child to respond to sounds presented at different levels of loudness and at different pitches. It is very unusual for our team not to get accurate hearing test results after one or two visits to the department. Once we are satisfied that the tests are accurate, the results will be inserted into the notes ready for your child’s follow up appointment with the Specialist. If you would like this information in larger print, Braille or a different language, please see the enclosed leaflet. If you have any concerns about this test or any questions, please phone the department and ask to speak to an Audiologist. If one is not available, we will call you back.
