Open Night 2017 FAQ - Pittwater Baseball Club

 Sports Academy Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child is an in area or out of area student for Narrabeen Sports High
School?
The easiest way to tell if your child is in area or out of area is to check the map below or check with
your local primary school. If your primary residential address falls within the blue outlined area you are
a local Narrabeen Sports High student and will be accepted into the school. This map is a basic guide
and certain streets and even the house next door can fall in an out of area location.
If you are an out of area student your primary residential address falls outside the blue outlined area
and you will have to trial for one of the 12 Sports Academy Programs.
What does it mean if my child is ‘OUT’ of area?
Out of area students must trial to be accepted into the Sports Academy. Narrabeen Sports High
School is a selective sports high school and can take students for special programs like the Sports
Academy who are OUT of area.
What does it mean if my child is ‘IN’ area, can they still participate in the Sports Academy?
Yes. In area students will be accepted at Narrabeen Sports High School. In area students will still
need to trial for their selected sports however, if they are not selected in their chosen sport they will be
still able to attend Narrabeen Sports High School as a local student who will be a non sports academy
elective student.
What if my child doesn’t make their selected sports?
If your child is an in area student they will be accepted at Narrabeen Sports High School as a local
student and attend non academy elective classes.
If your child is an out of area student and doesn’t get accepted into their chosen sport they will need to
attend their local high school. For some sports where it is extremely hard to get into the selective
Sports Academy i.e. Surfing, Dance, Gymnastics (due to small and capped numbers) we will also pick
on future potential and your child will be accepted to attend Narrabeen Sports High School and placed
on a waiting list.
Can you trial for more than one sport?
Yes - we encourage all students to grasp as many opportunities as possible before and during their
schooling at Narrabeen Sports High School.
What level does my child need to be competing at in order to trial for an Sports Academy?
Due to the Sports Academy being so popular, spots are becoming increasingly competitive to secure
in some sports. Whilst we encourage athletes to trial for the sport they are passionate about, more and
more often we are seeing athletes who are playing in top level local competitions or playing at
representative levels securing positions within their chosen sport in the Sports Academy.
Criteria for Selection
1. Potential student/athletes will be vetted by internal/external panel as part of the selection
process
2. Complete trial for selected sport
3. Potential student/athletes will be interviewed by school principal and Director of Sport
4. Student/athletes to provide recent school reports

Why are the trial dates in May after we submitted out preferences to our Primary School?
This is the first opportunity to select students for the Selective Sports Academy program and we must

How do I change my preferences to come to Narrabeen?
You can change your preferences by contacting your local primary school and putting Narrabeen
