T A G A I S T A T E One team, one spirit on Sports Day by Kay Ahmat Head of Campus Badhulgaw Ngurpay Lag Badhulgaw Ngurpay Lag held our Year 3-6 Sports Day. All students competed in 100m, 200m and 800m races, relays, long jump, shot put and ball games. We all had a great day. Lots of parents came along to join in the fun. The kids especially loved to see the parent relays and the parent tug-o-war. Year 7 in action by Justin Wong Teacher/Year 7 Coordinator Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh Year 7 students have been using experiments to expand their understanding of science. The students recently constructed their own balloon powered cars. This work has deepened Mr Warrick Sullivan address Year 7A. their understanding of contact and non-contact forces, and how these forces affect the world around us. Tagai TAFE is currently undergoing renovations that includes internal painting, new vinyl flooring, air conditioning, engineering and workshop facilities, and even installation of cabling for a new computer lab. Koeyma Eso to the deadly painters, Des Murphet and his crew, Charlie, Jimmy and Omar, Mat Carswell and the team from BAS and Dion from Babinda Electrics just to name a few. We apologise for any inconvenience that these upgrades may have on our students and trainers whilst work is underway. We have been fortunate to have had the assistance of Philimina Wosomo and My Pathway to support us with the filing, recycling, relocation and distribution of a number of supplies. We have given over 40 garbage bags of shredded paper to the Frog Gully Community Gardens. We have donated art and craft materials, toys and learning resources to the Lady Gowrie After School care program. We have provided boxes of brand new books from the Indigenous Literacy Association to our TI Reading group. Mark from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church will take donations of health, construction and marine resources on their next voyage to PNG. We will also Tagai Tech students load shredded paper for delivery with Anne McIlwain and Philimina Wosomo. notify community when we will be holding a charitable donations day, giving away unused/wanted furnishings and equipment. The last few months have been a busy time for us. We have delivered training and support to over 300 students from industry, community and secondary school. Our training packages have included modules from Certificates I, II, III and IV. Areas of study include governance, business, compliance, First Aid, plumbing and gas fitting, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, leadership and management, accounting, aged care, media, marine operations, shipboard safety, marine radio, conservation and land management, horticulture and community services. In addition to this, our Year 11 and 12 Tagai Tech program continues to work towards achieving their QCE whilst gaining Certificate I Construction, Certificate II Indigenous Housing and Maintenance, Certificate II Conservation and Land Management and Certificate II Marine Operations. Our Tagai senior students are also close to completing their Certificate II’s in Health Support, Business and Kitchen Operations on top of their school based subjects. On Friday 2 May, we celebrated 20 years of service with Marcella Ware, Head of administration at Tagai TAFE with an afternoon tea. Family and community members joined us to recognise and acknowledge this very special lady on this very special occasion. Jo Pyne, Director of TAFE North, also forwarded her personal and sincere gratitude to Marcy, highlighting that 20 years of service was truly an outstanding achievement. The Magnificent Dinghy Challenge by Paula Tweedie Head of Campus Kadhego Ngurpay Lag Our Prep/1 and Year 2/3 classes embarked on a challenge to end the term. Miss Walker and Mr Tim have been collecting recyclable materials over the past few weeks for children to choose from. The children were also provided with a range of art and craft materials. The clear and concise rules were outlined for everyone to follow. The children completed their dinghies this week and will be soon testing them out in water troughs. Mr Maira and Ms Tweedie are our guest judges. Some of these dinghies could float through the Torres Strait but some may need Lego lifejackets and an EPIRB. The Rules: 1. The dinghy must stay afloat for at least one minute. 2. The dinghy must hold a Lego person who can’t fall into the water. 3. The dinghy must have a name and number. 4. The dinghy must look good. 5.
