Lag held our Year
3-6 Sports Day. All
students competed
in 100m, 200m and
800m races, relays, long jump, shot put and
ball games. We all had a great day. Lots of
parents came along to join in the fun. The
kids especially loved to see the parent relays
and the parent tug-o-war.

In other news, we have had a
positive visit from school adopta-cop, Mr Warrick Sullivan, who
encouraged and inspired our

Tagai TAFE
We acknowledge the
Kaurareg nation, the
traditional
owners
past, present and
emerging on whose
land our campus sits.
Tagai TAFE is currently undergoing
renovations that includes internal painting,
new vinyl flooring, air conditioning,
engineering and workshop facilities, and
even installation of cabling for a new
computer lab. Koeyma Eso to the deadly
painters, Des Murphet and his crew, Charlie,
Jimmy and Omar, Mat Carswell and the team
from BAS and Dion from Babinda Electrics
just to name a few. We apologise for any
inconvenience that these upgrades may
have on our students and trainers whilst
work is underway.
We have been fortunate to have had
the assistance of Philimina Wosomo and
My Pathway to support us with the filing,
recycling, relocation and distribution of a
number of supplies. We have given over 40
garbage bags of shredded paper to the Frog
Gully Community Gardens. We have donated
art and craft materials, toys and learning
resources to the Lady Gowrie After School
care program. We have provided boxes
of brand new books from the Indigenous
Literacy Association to our TI Reading group.

unused/wanted furnishings and equipment.
The last few months have been a busy
time for us. We have delivered training and
support to over 300 students from industry,
community and secondary school. Our
training packages have included modules
from Certificates I, II, III and IV. Areas of study
include governance, business, compliance,
First Aid, plumbing and gas fitting, Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander health, leadership
and management, accounting, aged care,
media, marine operations, shipboard
safety, marine radio, conservation and land
management, horticulture and community
services.
In addition to this, our Year 11 and
12 Tagai Tech program continues to work
towards achieving their QCE whilst gaining
Certificate I Construction, Certificate II
Indigenous Housing and Maintenance,
Certificate II Conservation and Land
Management and Certificate II Marine
Operations. Our Tagai senior students are
also close to completing their Certificate
II’s in Health Support, Business and Kitchen
Operations on top of their school based
subjects.
On Friday 2 May, we celebrated 20
years of service with Marcella Ware, Head
of administration at Tagai TAFE with an
afternoon tea. Family and community
members joined us to recognise and
acknowledge this very special lady on this
very special occasion. Jo Pyne, Director of
TAFE North, also forwarded her personal and
sincere gratitude to Marcy, highlighting that
20 years of service was truly an outstanding
achievement.

The Magnificent Dinghy Challenge
by Paula Tweedie
Head of Campus
Kadhego Ngurpay Lag
Our Prep/1 and Year
2/3 classes embarked
on a challenge to end
the term. Miss Walker
and Mr Tim have
been collecting recyclable materials over
the past few weeks for children to choose
from. The children were also provided with
a range of art and craft materials. The clear
and concise rules were outlined for everyone
to follow.
The children completed their dinghies
this week and will be soon testing them
out in water troughs. Mr Maira and Ms
Tweedie are our guest judges. Some of these
dinghies could float through the Torres Strait
but some may need Lego lifejackets and an
EPIRB.
The Rules:
1. The dinghy must stay afloat for at
least one minute.
2. The dinghy must hold a Lego person
who can’t fall into the water.
3. The dinghy must have a name and
number.
4. The dinghy must look good.
5. All dinghies need an anchor and a
bucket for safety.
