ENGLISH Allan Ahlberg In Reading, the children will use three texts written by Allan Ahlberg to further develop their reading and comprehension skills. These are: ‘Woof’, ‘My brother’s ghost’ and ‘The childhood of Burglar Bill’. The children will look at using evidence from the text to justify their answers and how to develop the use of inference to up answer questions. This term in Writing, the children look at how characters are described in the work of Allan Ahlberg and use some of these ideas in their own stories. We will also look at explanation and report writing. At the end of term, we will be getting into the spirit of Christmas by writing letters along with ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’. MUSIC Benjamin Britten-A New Year Carol In Music lessons, the children will listen to ‘A new Year Carol’. They will find out about how to improve their singing in pitch with the melody of the song. They will also look at different styles of the song including gospel. Later in the term, we will be working hard on our Christmas carols and performance songs for ‘Puss in Boots’. HISTORY A legacy of Roman culture in Britain today This half-term we will be looking at the Roman Empire and the effect it had on Britain. We will look at the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar and his attempted invasion, The Roman Army, British resistance, The Romanisation of Britain, and their number and writing systems. We are also hoping to visit Vindolanda! To gain a special understanding of what life was like in the Roman Empire. SCIENCE MATHS Multiplication, division, statistics, ratio and proportion. This half-term we will continue to work hard as we prepare for our SATs tests. We will be focusing on long multiplication and long division, statistics, ratio and proportion, shape and measures. We will also be recapping how to use formulas to find answers to a range of questions, including shape questions. We will begin to look at some reasoning questions from past papers within our lessons to further prepare the children for tests. Class 6C Autumn 2 - 2016 Light In Science, the children will plan different types of scientific enquiry to answer questions about light. The children will explore how light behaves, including light sources, reflection and refraction. The children will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by recording results and observation with increasing accuracy. They will be expected to use their results to help report their findings and draw conclusions. COMPUTING We are Project Managers We will be finding out about how to organise a project in a group and how to take on different roles. We will plan the task of publishing a magazine about Allan Ahlberg and decide on the order of the tasks to be completed. At the end of the project we will look back and decide what went well and what we could improve. Design & Technology French Notre Monde (Our World) This half-term the children will be learning key vocabulary under the theme of ‘Our World’. They will be learning how to speak in simple sentences, describing holidays, weather patterns and countries. They will use these to write their own short sentences in French. RE Hinduism In RE we will be exploring the Hindu faith this half term, looking at celebrations, festivals and customs. We will be learning to explore how and why people celebrate in religions and explain how customs are similar or different between religions. ‘Marbulous’ Marble Runs Linked with the setting of two of our Allan Ahlberg books, we will be looking at toys from the 1950s. To make our marble runs we will investigate different types of structure and how to make them more stable. Our first challenge will be to see which team can build the tallest free standing structure in 30 minutes. So get those Lego and construction kits out at home and start practising!
