Class 6C Autumn 2 - Chopwell Primary School

ENGLISH
Allan Ahlberg
In Reading, the children will use three texts written by Allan
Ahlberg to further develop their reading and comprehension skills.
These are: ‘Woof’, ‘My brother’s ghost’ and ‘The childhood of
Burglar Bill’. The children will look at using evidence from the text
to justify
their answers and how to develop the use of inference to
up
answer questions.
This term in Writing, the children look at how characters are
described in the work of Allan Ahlberg and use some of these ideas
in their own stories. We will also look at explanation and report
writing.
At the end of term, we will be getting into the spirit of Christmas
by writing letters along with ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’.
MUSIC
Benjamin Britten-A New Year
Carol
In Music lessons, the children will listen
to ‘A new Year Carol’. They will find out
about how to improve their singing in
pitch with the melody of the song. They
will also look at different styles of the
song including gospel.
Later in the term, we will be working hard
on our Christmas carols and performance
songs for ‘Puss in Boots’.
HISTORY
A legacy of Roman culture in Britain today
This half-term we will be looking at the Roman Empire
and the effect it had on Britain.
We will look at the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar and his
attempted invasion, The Roman Army, British resistance,
The Romanisation of Britain, and their number and
writing systems.
We are also hoping to visit Vindolanda! To gain a special
understanding of what life was like in the Roman Empire.
SCIENCE
MATHS
Multiplication, division, statistics, ratio and
proportion.
This half-term we will continue to work hard as we
prepare for our SATs tests.
We will be focusing on long multiplication and long
division, statistics, ratio and proportion, shape and
measures. We will also be recapping how to use
formulas to find answers to a range of questions,
including shape questions. We will begin to look at
some reasoning questions from past papers within our
lessons to further prepare the children for tests.
Class 6C
Autumn 2 - 2016
Light
In Science, the children will plan different types of scientific enquiry
to answer questions about light. The children will explore how light
behaves, including light sources, reflection and refraction. The children
will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by recording
results and observation with increasing accuracy. They will be expected
to use their results to help report their findings and draw conclusions.
COMPUTING
We are Project Managers
We will be finding out about how to organise a project in a group and
how to take on different roles. We will plan the task of publishing a
magazine about Allan Ahlberg and decide on the order of the tasks to
be completed. At the end of the project we will look back and decide
what went well and what we could improve.
Design & Technology
French
Notre Monde (Our World)
This half-term the children will be learning
key vocabulary under the theme of ‘Our
World’. They will be learning how to speak in
simple sentences, describing holidays,
weather patterns and countries. They will
use these to write their own short sentences
in French.
RE
Hinduism
In RE we will be exploring the Hindu faith this half term,
looking at celebrations, festivals and customs. We will be
learning to explore how and why people celebrate in
religions and explain how customs are similar or different
between religions.
‘Marbulous’ Marble Runs
Linked with the setting of two of our Allan Ahlberg books, we
will be looking at toys from the 1950s. To make our marble runs
we will investigate different types of structure and how to
make them more stable. Our first challenge will be to see which
team can build the tallest free standing structure in 30 minutes.
So get those Lego and construction kits out at home and start
practising!
