Intended Use
The Wick is placed between the eyeball and the lower eyelid to drain away excess liquid from the operative site or
injury. Saline can be used to moisten the wick prior to placement to increase the speed of the wicking.
The 80ml Drain is intended for extra-capsular procedures and the 400ml Drain for Phacoemulsification
Procedures. Products are intended for transient use. The Wick should be placed between the eyeball and the
lower eyelid.
The 400cc Drain is supplied with two Wicks, the second Wick may be placed between the eyeball and the upper
eyelid. In these positions the Wicks will drain away excess liquid from the operative site. Saline may be used to
moisten the Wick prior to placement to soften the sponge an assist the wicking performance.
The Instrument Wipe and Wick is a combination product which has been developed for the ophthalmic surgeon.
The Wipes are soft but very strong, will not snag and can be used to remove the protein that weakens and affects
the surface and edges of delicate surgical instruments. The Wick can be easily detached, softened with saline or
BSS and placed under the lower eyelid to wick away excess fluid from the operative site.
Sterilisation
Products are sterilised by Gamma irradiation from a Cobalt 60 source in accordance with a validated 25 kGy cycle.
Sterilisation is carried out in accordance with the requirements of ISO 11137:2013 and the 25 kGy dose is
substantiated by VD25 Method Max testing.
All products are suitable for including inside procedure packs that are sterilised by EO gas.
The bulk eye wick (1-431B) is suitable for including inside procedure packs that are sterilised by gamma irradiation
and e-beam.
