Committee Objectives for 2010-2011 Based on College Goals
Goal 1— Student Learning and Success: Ensure student learning and success by
promoting an innovative and supportive learning environment.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will analyze current institutional situations as relates to
Achieving the Dream’s main purpose of helping more students reach their individual goals
(which may include obtaining a better job; earning a community college certificate or
degree; or attaining a bachelor’s degree) by collecting, compiling and analyzing data on
student outcomes; and analyzing data disaggregated by relevant demographic groups.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will diagnose causes of problems that prevent students
from reaching their goals by engaging students, faculty, and staff in the analysis.
Achieving the Dream Data Team will use quantitative and qualitative data to analyze the
College’s performance as it relates to student success.
Achieving the Dream Data Team will facilitate student focus groups in order to gather data
to determine student perceptions about the learning environment at the College.
Advisement Management Team: Advising for Program Change—will focus on defining the
advising steps and information for the program change process.
Advisement Management Team: Marketing—will focus on reviewing the messages for
faculty and students and develop ways to increase utilization of iCAN website.
Advisement Management Team: Standards of Progress—will focus on:
 Clarifying and communicating block dates with IT
 Self-Imposed suspension advising
 Assessing the student probation contract
Advisement Management Team: Advising Week—will:
 Develop an outline of what needs to be done to promote Advising Week each semester
 Focus on setting a standard time for advising week, such as three weeks before
registration and be sure it gets on all calendars for fall and spring terms
 Get the VPs, deans and faculty support, standardized advising outline for advisors.
Advisement Management Team: Classroom Advising— will focus on:
 Including “Advising” tab for Blackboard classes in more curriculum areas, particularly IT
and Nursing
 Checking “Course Statistics” in Blackboard to track the use of “Advising” tab
Classified Staff Council intends to encourage our members to become fully engaged in the
quorums on each CPCC campus to discuss the Achieving the Dream initiatives and explore
the ways that we can contribute to the success of all our students.
College Senate president will serve on the Achieving the Dream Core team.
College Senate president-elect will serve on the Achieving the Dream Data team.

College Senate will support Achieving the Dream by providing feedback.
College Senate will continue to support the Learning College initiative.
College Senate will submit updated proposal for Grade Appeals Process.
College Senate president will engage with VPL on Policy and Procedure faculty questions.
College Information Technology Team (College Tech Team) will evaluate design and
recommend configuration of the SMART and Technically Enhanced classrooms to enhance
teaching and learning through the use of user-friendly, cost-effective, and state-of-the-art
technologies.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend current and future solutions to assist with
the online learning environment, including any upgrades to our learning management
systems.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend solutions regarding policies and guidelines
on the best practices for student use of College technologies.
Diversity Committee will establish cultural diversity panel programs at each campus for staff
and students each spring and fall.
Diversity Committee will collaborate with Student Life to offer cultural
performances/workshops during the International Spring Festival, MLK Day, and other
events.
General Education Committee will maintain active liaison with Achieving the Dream
initiative.
General Education Committee will review SACS requirements related to general education.
General Education Committee will assess and report results of General Education Goals for
2010-2011.
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—Achieving the Dream Subcommittee—will:
 Review quantitative and qualitative data sets
 Help evaluate proposed intervention strategies
 Assist with identifying measurable outcomes for the final strategies in the
implementation plan.
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—eLearning Subcommittee—will:
 Support/assist with the recommendations from the eLearning Advisory Committee
 Review Distance Education requirements for SACS
Learning College Steering Committee will pilot the use of an ePortfolio as a tool to
document student learning outcomes in 3-5 program areas.

Learning College Steering Committee will create an outreach campaign for student selfassessment of core competencies.
Process Review Team will inventory CPCC policies, procedures, and practices that directly
impact student success and retention.
Retention Committee will assess outcomes of the pilot of the new Diagnostic Accuplacer
test.
Retention Committee will consult with instructional programs and student services staff to
develop more comprehensive steps for enrolling first year students and to assist with the
starting of the First Year Experience program.
Retention Committee will continue research and implementation work in the following
areas:
 Required Placement Testing for New Students Seeking Credentials (6+ hours first term
enrollment)
 Enrollment in Developmental for those placing into it
 Pre-enrollment Advising
 Pre-enrollment Orientation
 Expanded Prerequisites for Reading/Writing/Math-intensive Courses
 Special Required Advising for Transfer Students
Retention Committee will identify non-academic barriers to student success and set up
subcommittees to study these and make recommendations for addressing them.
Retention Committee will research and recommend actions as requested by the Achieving
the Dream Core and Data Teams.
Safe College Team will foster a safe learning environment by enhancing communication
tools to be used in the event of an emergency (i.e., social media and the classroom phone
paging system).
Goal 2—Organizational Learning and Development: Foster an organizational culture
that maximizes individual growth through expanded learning opportunities.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will educate the College community on Achieving the
Dream goals and values.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will hold conversations to reflect on the data (see Goal 1,
Objective 1).
Achieving the Dream Data Team will facilitate a series of Data Dialogs at all six campuses to
seek input from faculty and staff on data relevant to student success.
Classified Staff Council intends to complete the implementation of a scholarship for a
Classified Staff employee through a partnership with the CPCC Foundation.

College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend mobile solutions to enhance learning and
improve effectiveness of College administration.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend additional and/or updates of on-demand
training for solutions and services provided by ITS.
College Tech Team will evaluate and implement new enhancements and features offered by
Datatel and their partners.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend any additional current and/or future
updates of strategic reporting solutions to assist with reviewing and evaluating longitudinal
data across the College.
Diversity Committee will expand awareness of the professional development offerings
related to diversity, including the Diversity Certificate.
Diversity Committee will partner with Library Services to offer film viewings for students and
staff.
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—Culture of Evidence Subcommittee—will:
 Educate the College community on what data sets currently exist and where they are
located
 Offer training opportunities on how to read, understand, and interpret data
 Review status of core competency initiative
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—IEC Communications and Awareness
Subcommittee—will:
 Seek opportunities to provide IEC updates and bring forward IEC recommendations to
other College-wide committees and key players
 Publish “Data Briefs” on behalf of the IEC
Safe College Team will prepare employees to respond to emergency situations.
Safe College Team will review and strengthen business continuity systems and processes
across CPCC in support of the learning environment.
Goal 3—Community Catalyst: Be a catalyst for the educational and socioeconomic
development of the community through partnerships, coalitions, lifelong learning, and
civic engagement.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will engage community stakeholders in diagnosing
problems that prevent students from achieving their goals.
Classified Staff Council intends to organize at least one area nursing home visit this year to
deliver socks and lotion to the residents.
Classified Staff Council intends to hold our annual “Morning with Santa” event for the
women and children of the Salvation Army Center of Hope and the general public, free of
charge, during the Christmas season.

College Tech Team will encourage participation in technology events at various campuses
and College-related conferences.
Diversity Committee will partner with the Arts and Science Council to offer the African
American Theater 101 program to students.
Diversity Committee will collaborate with Service Learning and International Programs and
Services to participate in community outreach projects.
Diversity Committee will look at partnering with “Crossroads Charlotte” to offer discussion
panels or information events at the College.
Safe College Team will strengthen the College’s emergency preparedness plan by enhancing
community partnerships and collaborating with police, fire, medic, and other relevant
organizations.
Safe College Team will transition CPCC’s All Hazard Emergency Response Plan to National
Incident Management System standards, enhancing our ability to interface with external
organizations during emergency or disaster incidents.
Goal 4—Organizational Capacity to Serve: Plan and manage human, physical,
financial, and technological resources so that College programs, services, and
infrastructure meet student and community needs.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will examine existing institutional policies and practices to
discover what helps and hinders student success at achieving their stated goals.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will set priorities, goals, and measurable outcomes.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will develop strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
Achieving the Dream Data Team will facilitate faculty/staff focus groups in order to gather
data relating to College programs and services.
Classified Staff Council intends to reach out to fellow Classified Staff members at
Thanksgiving who are in need of a little help to have a “Happy Thanksgiving” by
anonymously delivering food to their households that we collect on our campuses prior to
Thanksgiving.
College Senate will work with ITS Liaison to ensure faculty and learner’s technology needs
are addressed within the scope of College resources.
College Senate will engage ITS to test and pilot new systems (for example, syllabi system).
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend solutions, including online chat services, to
improve customer service offerings to students, faculty, and staff.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend solutions to further enhance
communications.

College Tech Team will recommend training and education for all objectives as required.
Diversity Committee will sponsor a Diversity Committee table at the annual “Walk a Mile”
disability awareness event at each campus.
Goal 5—Organizational Excellence and Innovation: Promote and sustain innovation,
entrepreneurship, and excellence throughout the organization.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will, together with the Achieving the Dream Data Team,
identify two to three institution-wide initiatives that will result in more students achieving
their stated goal of obtaining a better job, earning a community college certificate or
degree, or attaining a bachelor’s degree.
Achieving the Dream Core Team will author a two-year implementation plan for establishing
and ensuring success of identified initiatives.
Classified Staff Council intends to organize fundraisers to promote financial sustainability of
our annual projects.
College Senate president will engage CCE to look for opportunities to leverage faculty
expertise for developing and delivering quality CCE training.
College Tech Team will evaluate and recommend improvements of the annual Technology
Planning process.
Diversity Committee will look at developing a “Diversity at CPCC” page on the website or an
email address where staff and students could offer ideas and learn about events.
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—Administrative and Program Review Subcommittee
will:
 Review the One-Year Follow-Up Reports
 Recommend any changes to the program review process prior to the next cycle which
begins in December 2010
Institutional Effectiveness Committee—SACS Subcommittee will:
 Develop a standardized template for meeting agendas and minutes
 Develop a process to identify and deposit all meeting agendas and minutes into a
centralized repository
 Assist with the inventorying of who is responsible and what kind of documentation
currently exists as required by SACS
Retention Committee will assist, as directed by Cabinet, with the implementation of the
Process Review Team’s recommendations from 2009-2010 and with research or pilot
projects relating to the Achieving the Dream effort.
