Splinters from the Board of Trustees Oct. 9 Meeting:
The Treasurer reported that last year we were over budget for childcare, insurance and building rehab.
The loose collection for the 1st quarter of the church year (July-Sept.) was $461 and went to Planned
Parenthood. Fred Cervin and Dave Taylor will be reimbursed for expenses for building a cart for the large TV
set (donated to the Bioregional Group) and the CBD conference in MA. upon submission of bills.
Worship reported openings for services only in Jan. and Feb.
House and Property reported the carpet was cleaned upstairs and down. The 1st floor furnace was repaired,
which was covered by the maintenance contract. Sister Cities would like maintenance done on the 3rd floor,
especially to the windows. Renting out the 3rd floor would require a 2nd exit/access and involves tax questions.
The basement also needs to be cleared of potential fire hazards, starting with the area around the furnace.
The Sunday Children’s Program needs a childcare person. We need to have phone number, address, any
training and possibly references for the potential employee to comply with insurance requirements. A motion
was made and passed to pay the childcare person $20 per Sunday. Dave was authorized to hire someone
appropriate.
The Proto Planning Committee is giving a preliminary presentation Oct. 19. A 1-day retreat for everyone is
being planned for Jan. or Feb. in the NH area. An outside facilitator is being recruited.
The next meeting of the Board will be Nov. 20 at 7:30 pm.

Perhaps the World Ends Here by Joy Harjo
The world begins at a kitchen table. No matter what, we must eat to live.
The gifts of earth are brought and prepared, set on the table. So it has been since
creation, and it will go on.
We chase chickens or dogs away from it. Babies teethe at the corners. They scrape their
knees under it.
It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human. We make
men at it, we make women.
At this table we gossip, recall enemies and the ghosts of lovers. Our dreams drink coffee
with us as they put their arms around our children. They laugh
with us at our poor falling-down selves and as we put ourselves
back together once again at the table.
This table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in the sun.
Wars have begun and ended at this table. It is a place to hide in
the shadow of terror. A place to celebrate the terrible victory.
We have given birth on this table, and have prepared our parents
for burial here.
At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow. We pray of suffering and remorse. We give
thanks.
Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying,
eating of the last sweet bite.
