ETHICAL PRINCIPLES IN SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL "STUDIES IN LAW AND ECONOMICS " "Studies in Law and Economics" is a leading scientific journal in Poland where eminent domestic and foreign researchers in the field of law and economics as well as talented young scientists publish their articles. In order to provide the highest ethical standards in our publishing activity we are guided by the following principles. ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF EDITORS 1. The Editorial Board takes full responsibility for the content of all published articles and other texts. 2. The journal publishes articles in the field of law and economic sciences. Articles should be written in Polish or congress languages. 3. The Editorial Board gives unbiased consideration to all articles offered for publication, judging each paper on its merits exclusively regardless of sex, nationality, institutional affiliation of the author and any other essential factors. 4. Articles are reviewed by two independent experts representing the field of science to which the subject of the article relates. Reviewers are from outside the institution, in which editor-in-chief of the magazine is affiliated. In the case of conflicting assessments by appointed reviewers, the article is passed to a third party review. The article can be rejected by the Editorial Board without seeking the opinion of reviewers, if it does not fit the profile of the journal, or does not meet minimum quality standards. 5. The preferred way for reviewing the articles is a model of "double-blind review process". In the other case a reviewer is obliged to sign a declaration of non-existence of a conflict of interest. The conflict of interest between the reviewer and the author occurs if there are: a) direct personal relationships (kinship, legal relationships, conflict), b) professional subordination, c) direct scientific cooperation in the past two years preceding the preparation of the review. 6. Editorial Board takes the final decision to accept the article for publication or to reject it. 7. Editorial Board provides the authors on the website of the journal full information about the editorial requirements that govern the published articles and reviewing principles. 8. In the event of justified suspicion of unethical behavior of the authors in the form of copyright infringement, falsification of research results or others, Editorial Board is obliged to inform about this fact the relevant institutions. ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF REVIEWERS 1. Article reviewer should be a person who is an expert or has a significant scientific achievements in the area of the article. 2. Reviews should have a written form and should be prepared in an objective manner. Reviewers ought to clearly formulate their opinions in a way that allows the authors to respond to the comments contained in a review. A review should end up with an explicit conclusion whether the article should be published in its original form, after taking into account suggested amendments or should not be accepted for publication. 3. In the case of those articles that, according to the reviewers, require significant adjustments, reviewers should refer to the revised version of an article in order to accept it. 4. Each reviewed article is covered by a principle of confidentiality in relation to its whole content. 5. Reviewer who does not feel competent to prepare an objective opinion or who does not have time to prepare a review in a timely manner should immediately inform the Editorial Board about that. ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF AUTHORS 1. The author’s most important obligation is to report for publishing the articles that are the result of original research, that have not been previously published in whole or in substantial part, and are not subject to publishing procedures in another journal or scientific work. 2. The authors of the article should be only persons that put a significant contribution to its creation. The names of these persons and their affiliations should be placed in the headline of the article. 3. In the case of co-authors’ articles the contribution of individual authors in the creation of the article and its parts should be noted to Editorial Board. 4. Authors should include in the article citation all the publications that had a significant impact on the content of the article and other sources used during the preparation of the article. 5. Where requested, the authors should provide the source data and research methods used in the article. 6. Authors should respond to the opinions of reviewers. In a situation when they do not agree with the comments contained in the review, they should provide the Editorial Board a relevant comment and explanation of their opinions. 7. Sources of financial funding of the research work on the article should be presented in the article. 8. The authors are required to provide a written statement of a copyright transfer to the Editor and originality of the article.
