Applied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
(CBT) skills for professionals working in
long-term conditions and end of life care
St Christopher’s Education is pleased to offer this City & Guilds Accredited six day
course providing CBT skills for health professionals. This course offers progression
from our well established three day foundation skills course (or equivalent) and will
enable clinicians to develop and use a set of CBT-based skills, in order to help their
patients in a coherent and skilled manner. This will enable patients to feel supported
and understood, to identify their own inner sources of resilience and coping and
thus manage the psychological distress they will encounter as a result of their illness,
their changing life circumstances and their preparations for the end of their lives.
This course delivers the ability to to work with anxiety, panic, distress and depression
using the CBT approach.
The course takes place over six months, and includes six face-to-face training days at
St Christopher’s Hospice, as well as five supervision sessions, which last approximately
one and a half to two hours and are held in small groups or via Skype. Dates and
locations of supervision are negotiated at the beginning of the course. Attendance at
all six training days and at all of the five supervision sessions is mandatory to meet the
course requirements. Participants will be expected to prepare material for supervision
and for the second and third pair of training days. Assessment of participants will be
through observation and a portfolio of written assignments.
Who is the course for?
Health care practitioners, community
nurses, acute medical and nursing
staff, care home staff, allied health
professionals, site-specific cancer nurse
specialists and cancer counsellors, as well
