Open Mic Night Application for Performers Thursday, November 6, 2014 Tyler Recital Hall 6:30 P.M. Important Information: Please arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. to sign in and perform preparatory actions for the event. Performance Guidelines: • • • • • Performances will be limited to lyrical expressions (poetry, singing, standup, etc…). Performers may have musical accompaniment. Offensive language, gestures, or comments of any kind will not be allowed during any performance. Violators will be disqualified. All performers must present an original piece. Any indication of a nonoriginal piece will result in loss of originality points. Any contestant who is wearing “revealing” clothing will not be allowed to compete in the contest. All participants are encouraged to try and keep acts to five minutes (this may vary) to ensure that we have enough time for all performers. Prizes will be provided to winners! Purpose of Event: The African American Student Association hosts the Open Mic Night annually as a way of providing students and members of the local community with an opportunity to express themselves and to experience various forms of lyrical expression. The event also provides AASA members with the opportunity to build leadership skills. Any proceeds from the event will help fund future efforts of the organization, allowing it to accomplish the primary mission of student development.
