Old-Time Stingband
The North Carolina based
Corklickers were formed over forty
years ago at the height of the 1970s old-time revival (photo: 1976 in
Boone). Their music is based on classic early to mid 20th century oldtime repertoire with influences from Tommy Jarrell, Charlie Bowman,
Uncle Dave Macon, Ernest Stoneman, Riley Puckett, Charlie Poole,
Grandpa Jones, and John Carson. The band includes Mark Adams on
banjo; fiddlers Gil Adams, Rick Palmer, and David Burns; Rick Moore
on standup bass; and Ben Moore on guitar.

Hellgramites. Be part of Appalachian square dancing at the Laurel. No

Based in Nashville, Chloe Edmonstone
and Meredith Watson bring their
experience in old-time, bluegrass, and
pre-War blues to both their original
material and the traditional songs and tunes of the American Southeast.
With a rotating instrumentation of fiddles, open-back and resonator
banjos, acoustic and resonator guitars, they set an emphasis on lively
arrangements that showcase their signature vintage vocal harmonies.
They have been touring the US, UK and Ireland since 2012.

L’Esprit Creole
Music of Old Louisiana
Friday, March 17 8 p.m.
Led by fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt,
L’Esprit Créole specializes in the music
of the French speaking enclaves of the
Ozarks and midwest. Dennis studied with Old Mines, Missouri fiddlers
Roy and Pete Boyer and Charlie Pashia and is considered a leading
interpreter of the old style that evolved from the music brought
to the area by early 18th-century French settlers. In addition to
performing with L’Espirit Creole, Dennis has previously played at the
Laurel with Morris Ardoin and with Paul Gregoire and Roux du Bayou.

Traditional Bluegrass
Larry Sparks began his career at the top of the
profession when he worked with the Stanley
Brothers and Ralph Stanley during the late 1960s.
He formed the Lonesome Ramblers in 1969, and began a recording
career that has established him as one of the top names in bluegrass.
A number of songs associated with him have become standards,
including “John Deere Tractor,” “A Face In The Crowd,” “I Am The Man
Thomas,” “Blue Virginia Blues” and “I Just Want To Thank You Lord.”
The Lonesome Ramblers include D Sparks, Mike Feagan, Jackie Kincaid
and Tyler Mullins. His latest album is Vintage.

First Generation Bluegrass
Friday, April 7, 8 p.m.
The Chattanooga based Dismembered
Tennesseans, led by champion fiddler
Fletcher Bright, was formed in 1945. They
have performed country with bluegrass “sung from the heart through
the nose.” Regulars at the Laurel Theater, Fletcher is joined by Ed
“Doc” Cullis on banjo, bassist and vocalist Laura Walker, multiinstrumentalist Ansley Moses, guitarist and vocalist Bobby Martin,
mandolinist Don Cassell, Brian Blaylock on mandolin and dobro, and
Fletcher’s son George Bright on flat top guitar.

Molsky’s Mountain Drifters
Old-Time Stringband
Saturday, April 8, 8 p.m.
One of the most influential fiddlers of the
old-time music revival, Bruce Molsky is also
a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer.
His discography includes seven solo albums, from his debut of fiddlers’
classics, Warring Cats, to his most recent, If It Ain’t Here When I Get
Back. Poor Man’s Troubles won a 2001 “Indie” award for Best Traditional
Folk Recording. In the Mountain Drifters Bruce is joined by Allison De
Groot on banjo and Stash Wyslouch on guitar.

We’re continuing our square dance series
with old-time music by the Hellgramites

Malcolm Holcombe
“Derelict Country”
Friday, April 14, 8 p.m.
Born and raised in the Blue Ridge
Mountains of North Carolina,
Malcolm Holcombe is recognized as
a performer of national stature, a guitarist/vocalist about whom Rolling
Stone magazine says: “Haunted country, acoustic blues and rugged folk
all meet [here]...” His newest album is Another Black Hole.
Our Mission
The mission of Jubilee Community Arts is to promote,
preserve, and present the traditional performing arts
of the southern Appalachian region and to nurture the
cultural milieu responsible for the birth and evolution of
these and related art forms.

Naughty Knots
String Band

The East Tennessee trio The Naughty
Knots bring together a blend of country,
jazz and blues and old time fiddle tunes
that are as homegrown as garden
tomatoes. The Naughty Knots can cook
up some delicious tunes and serve them
to you on a silver platter, with a focus on
great songwriting, tight harmonies and
solid instrumentation. Check out their first CD 12 Song in the Pan.

mixture of folk and bluegrass, Jay Clark’s
handcrafted lyrics run the gamut of hard
living, hard drinking, civil disobedience,
and old-time religion. Greg has been a fixture on the Knoxville song
writing and old time music scene for many years. Both have recently
published CDs — Jay’s Of Mountains & Heartbreak and Greg’s Working
on Engines.

Scott Ainslie
Bottleneck Guitar
Friday, April 28, 8 p.m.
As a musician with expertise in Southern
Appalachian fiddle and banjo traditions as
well as Piedmont and Delta blues, Ainslie
has specialized in performing and presenting
programs on the European and African roots of American music and
culture. He is especially known for his study of Robert Johnson’s
repertoire and technique and is the author of Robert Johnson, at the
Crossroads. His latest CD is The Last Shot Got Him released in 2014.
