In Recognition of the
South Atlanta High School Boys Basketball Team
Whereas,

The Atlanta City Council is pleased to recognize the extraordinary basketball talents of the
South Atlanta High School Boys’ Basketball Team, winners of the 2017 Georgia High School
Association (GHSA) Class AA basketball state title; and
The team captured the state title in a 68-33 win against Swainsboro High School; and
Whereas,
In other key victories prior to the championship game, the Hornets beat T.W. Josey 61-50,
Washington County 75-69, Butler 82-70 and Elbert County 85-61; and
Whereas,
The Hornets roster consists of Frank Bailey, Dondre Barnes, Acey Brown, Ja’Quavian
Florence, Jordan Freeman, Antonio Gay, Devonta Pullins, Demonte Roberts, Jalen Stegall and
Tyler Thornton with managers Stephen Anderson and Amanda Kelley won the school’s second
state title under the leadership of Head Coach Michael Reddick, who has coached at South
Atlanta High School for the past 19 years.
Whereas,
Head Coach Michael Reddick, Assistant Coaches Kalum Banks, Lucius Boddie and Jammar
Stegall are to be commended for their leadership, coaching and guidance.
Now Therefore Be It Resolved that, We, the members of the Atlanta City Council and on behalf of the citizens
of Atlanta hereby recognize the members of South Atlanta High School Boys’ Basketball Team, their coaches
and teachers for a successful 2017 season and congratulate you on winning the 2017 Georgia High School
Association (GHSA) Class AA basketball state title.
