University of Amsterdam – College of Economics and Business Instructions – BSc Economics and Business These instructions apply to applicants who are not obtaining a Dutch VWO or HBO-P diploma. You should create your own account and submit your application through the online Embark system. Please read these instructions carefully before creating an account. You can complete your application and submit it at once, or at a later stage. The system automatically saves all information that you have entered. The online application consists of five parts: 1. Application form 2. Documents 3. References 4. Application Inspector 5. Payment 1. Application form In this part you are asked to fill out your personal details, as well as details on your preeducation such as the date of enrolment and the date of obtaining your diploma. Additionally, we ask you how you plan to finance your study. Please note the following: Once your account has been created your e-mail address cannot be changed. All fields with an asterisk (*) are required fields. Your family name/surname is the name under which your file will be registered. Make sure that this is the name on your transcripts to avoid any confusion. You should also use this name in all correspondence. Make sure to enter a valid e-mail address that you check regularly, as this is the way we will communicate with you regarding your application. Also check your junk mail folder or adjust your e-mail settings to prevent e-mails from being directed there by adding [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] to your e-mail safe list. 2. Documents Here you are asked to upload all necessary documents. Scans of the original documents suffice for the initial part of the application process. Please upload documents as Word- or PDF-files. JPG-files are not accepted. Make sure that each separate document does not exceed 2MB. Required documents are: 1. 2. 3. 4. Copy of your secondary school diploma (if already obtained)* 6. Copy of TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge score certificate (if applicable) 7. Optional: Motivation letter for the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship – applicable for students with a non-EU/EEA nationality only. * Kindly include certified English translations unless the original document is in Dutch, German or English. Please note: • • • • Incomplete applications will not be processed by the Admissions office. We strongly encourage you to submit a complete application file including your English test score, as this simplifies and speeds up the evaluation process. Important: please do not upload compulsory documents more than once and do not upload any documents that are not required (e.g. awards etc.). This makes your application an unnecessarily large file and disturbs the evaluation process. If you encounter problems uploading your documents please refer to Support on uploading documents. 3. References In this section you need to introduce your referee, a current or former teacher, by entering his or her name and e-mail address. He or she will receive an automatic e-mail with an invitation to write a recommendation letter and upload it to the Embark system. Please inform your referee about the procedure before the introduction. We need to receive the recommendation letters within three weeks after you have submitted your application. It is not possible to upload recommendation letters yourself. One referee is sufficient for the application process. 4. Application inspector The application inspector is a check by the system on whether you have met all requirements; if you have answered all questions and uploaded all documents in order to be able to submit your application. 5. Payment Before you can submit the application form, you will need to pay the € 100 handling fee via Embark. Payment is only possible by credit card and will be processed immediately so you can continue with your application. € 75 will be refunded if you are accepted and enrol in the programme. Follow-up Once you have submitted your application, you can follow the status of your application under the header 'Track Status' on the Embark homepage. University of Amsterdam – College of Economics and Business The admission procedure Shortly after we have received your complete application the admissions committee will start the selection procedure. We admit students on a rolling basis. Incomplete applications will not be processed. We aim to finish the admission procedure on a rolling basis. After the first evaluation we need to plan your mathematics entrance test and possibly an interview. The math test takes places on 6 set dates, in the months January-May. You can choose one of these dates in your online application form. If there is uncertainty about your pre-education the selection procedure might take longer. In this case we will inform you about the delay. If you are admitted to the programme, you will be requested to send certified copies of your diplomas and transcripts, and originals of your English test scores (if applicable), by regular postage. We will also ask you to sign a participation agreement in order to secure your place in the programme. After you have secured your place in the programme we will arrange your housing and study visa (if necessary) – only applicable for international students. If you are accepted, a conditional offer will be sent to your home address and an unconditional offer will be sent by e-mail after all necessary documents have been received. Important: Dutch citizens need to register for the programme in Studielink after being admitted and before the 1st of May. You may now start your application by creating an account in Embark. Access it by clicking the link “Apply now” on the right hand side of the programme page.
