Where we are located:
What a great place for a camp 350 wooded acres that include the
entire frontage on a clear northern
Michigan lake. The facilities reflect a
Northwood’s tradition and are modern
and well maintained. Two separate and
complete campsites allow us to house
two different age groups and minister
to them separately.
You will find us in Michigan’s lower
peninsula about 200 miles north of
Detroit and 45 miles east of Grayling on
highway M-72 (5 miles east of Fairview).

Why we are here:
There are few times in a person’s life
when a whole summer can be given
to service, and there are few places
that stretch and mature us like summer
camp. What an incredible experience
to love and lead a young person to a
stronger relationship with the God
of heaven and earth.
Our mission is to give a thoroughly
Biblical declaration of the glories
of God among the entire Barakel
community, with a view to gathering
worshipers who magnify God through
the gladness of radically obedient
lives. All to the glory of God.

Where we came from:
For more than sixty years, we have
been used by God in the work of
camping. We are owned by, and
accountable to, a group of forty
churches in Michigan.
Nearly 10,000 people
(in four seasons) come
to camp each year.
What excites us:
• We deeply care about what is on God’s
heart.
• We believe God reveals His heart in His
Written Word.
• We have one week with each camper and
want to clearly present the Simple Gospel
of Jesus to them.
• We want to demonstrate Jesus in How We
Live with our fellow staff.
• We believe Lasting Change will occur when
the eternal Word of God is proclaimed in
large groups, small groups and one to one.
• We think one of the greatest benefits of
camping is the change that happens in the
Lives of Staff.
