What is life skills?

 Life skills are the abilities for
adaptive and positive
behavior that enable individuals
to deal effectively with the
demands and challenges of
everyday life.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) divides life skills
into:
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) divides
life skills into the following three categories:
 Learning to know (cognitive abilities) which involves
decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
 Learning to be (personal abilities) which involves skills for
increasing internal control, managing emotions and handling stress.
 Learning to live together (interpersonal abilities) which
involves interpersonal communication skills, empathy,
co-operation and teamwork.
Study Skills
Study skills are the skills you need to enable you to
study and learn efficiently – they are an important
set of transferable life skills. Examples are:
 Time Management
 Note-taking
 Goal Setting
 Motivation
 Self Regulation
 Self Awareness
 Active listening
 Critical and Analytical Thinking

CLO 1- Develop an awareness of personal identity and personality
theories to understand others’ behavior in a group setting.
