Thermal lensing in the VIRGO mirrors Large amounts of laser power are stored in the VIRGO Fabry-Perot cavities. This causes the mirrors to heat up and deform limiting the operation of the interferometer. A finite element analysis of the input mirror has been carried out. This dynamical model yields the temperature distribution in the mirror, the eigenmodes and the variation of the optical pathlength.
