2017 FARNAM STAKES CONDITIONS
2-Year-Old Eligibility and Entry Requirements







Horse must have sold in the 2016 Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale.
Horses can be shown in the Farnam Western Pleasure Stakes and/or the Farnam Hunter Under Saddle
Stakes class. An additional $800, plus the $125 Office Fee will be due if entering both classes.
$125 Office Fee required postmarked by August 1 to enter. Entry forms will be mailed to the recorded
owner of the horse prior to the entry deadline.
A combined $50,000 purse will be split based on the number of entries in each class. Minimum $5,000
added per class guaranteed.
Both classes are eligible for NSBA dual approval with payment of the applicable fee.
Back Again for 2017: Classes will be offered with a Limited Division as a class within a class. Payout
will be 75% to the Open Division and 25% to the Limited Division.
2017 Limited Exhibitor Eligibility Criteria:
Exhibitor must declare they are eligible for the Limited Division by 5 P.M. the day before the class
by completing the Limited Division section of the entry form.
o A Limited Division exhibitor is:
 An exhibitor who has NOT, in the past five (5) years (2012-2016), been an:
o APHA World Champion or Reserve World Champion (open division/all classes) to
include champions/reserve champions in Farnam 2-Year-Old Pleasure Stakes
classes, futurities, maturities, stakes, challenges, sweepstakes.
o AQHA World Champion or Reserve World Champion (open division/all classes) to
include champions/reserve champions in futurities, maturities, stakes, sweepstakes.
o AQHA Congress Champion or Reserve Congress Champion (open division/all
classes) to include champions/reserve champions in futurities, maturities, stakes,
sweepstakes.
o ApHC World Champion or Reserve World Champion (open division/all classes) to
include champions/reserve champions in futurities, maturities, stakes, sweepstakes.
 NSBA Lifetime Earnings cannot exceed $15,000. Refer to 2017 Rider List on
www.nsba.com.
 All amateur and youth are eligible. All amateur and youth program rules apply (i.e.
ownership/lease and status, etc.) All Amateurs must own/lease their horse to be eligible to
compete. Youth are not required to own/lease their horse to be eligible to compete.
 The Limited Champion or Reserve Limited Champion of the Farnam 2-Year-Old Pleasure
Stakes classes will not be eligible to compete as a Limited exhibitor the following year.

Non-Pro 3- and 4-Year-Old Eligibility and Entry Requirements






Horse must have sold in the Stakes Session of the 2014 or 2015 Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale.
Horses can be shown in the Farnam Non-Pro 3- and 4-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes and/or the
Farnam Non-Pro 3- and 4-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle Stakes class.
Must be shown by a non-pro (Amateur or Youth exhibitor). Horse must be owned/leased by
Amateur/Youth and/or the Amateur/Youth’s family member. See rules AM-020 and YP-015 for
complete ownership requirements.
$800 Entry Fee required; $400 first payment by July 1 and second payment by August 1 (85% of entry
fee jackpotted into purse). Entry forms will be mailed to the recorded owner prior to the entry deadline.
Both classes are eligible for NSBA dual approval with payment of the applicable fee.
APHA will guarantee $7,000 in combined total added money (combined overall and split based on
entries) for 2017
All fees listed above are per class. Additional fees will be required if entering both Western Pleasure and
Hunter Under Saddle classes in a given year.
Annual sale profits have been applied as follows:
 10% will be kept in a rainy day fund to be applied to future purses.
 40% of the remaining profits will be added to the purse for the following year’s Farnam Non-Pro 3 &
4-Year-Old Pleasure Stakes classes.
 60% of the remaining profits will be added to the purse for the Farnam Non-Pro 3 & 4-Year-Old
Pleasure Stakes classes for the 3-year-old year of the yearlings sold in the sale.

2018 Farnam Stakes Conditions
An expanded entry fee structure replaces the Farnam Select Sale to make horses eligible for the Farnam
Stakes classes beginning for the 2018 APHA World Show (2017 yearlings).
Simplified Eligibility Requirements:



Horses must be nominated to the Breeders’ Trust to be eligible.
o All Solid Paint-Bred horses that have been genetically tested and confirmed to carry at least one
approved Paint pattern marker will be eligible to compete with Regular Registry horses.
Entry Fees:
o Yearling year – Postmarked November 1, 2017 – $1,500 payment
 Late Entry Fee – Postmarked November 2, 2017 - December 31, 2017 –
$3,000 payment
 No additional entries will be accepted after December 31, 2017.
o 2-year-old year – Postmarked August 1, 2018 – $1,000 + $225 admin. fee
 Late Entry Fee – Postmarked August 2, 2018 until 5 p.m. day before class –
$1,500 + $225 admin. fee
 If entering both 2-year-old classes, an additional $1,000 entry fee will apply.
o Total investment = $2,500/entry + $225 admin. fee
Classes:
o 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure and 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle
 Offered with a limited division as a class within a class.
 Payout 75% Open / 25% Limited

o Beginning at the 2020 World Show – the Non-Pro class option will change to Non-Pro 3-YearOld Western Pleasure and Non-Pro 3-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle for eligible horses
(additional entry fees required)

Payouts:
o All fees are non-refundable. Administrative Fees retained by APHA.
o All payments received will be paid out as follows:
 $250/horse will be carried over to Non-Pro 3 & 4-Year-Old Stakes class purses.
 40% allocated to current year’s classes
 60% allocated to following year’s classes
 All remaining payments, including partial and late payments, will be paid out during the
2-year-old year and split per class based on the total number of horses entered. Class
purses split 75% to Open Division and 25% to Limited Division.
 2-Year-Old Purse - $20,000 added overall
 $5,000 minimum added guaranteed per class (Western Pleasure & Hunter Under
Saddle) and remaining split based on percentage of entries.
