Creating a Choice Activity in Moodle to Set Up a Sign-Up Schedule This document will show how to use the choice tool to run simple 1 question polls in Moodle. As an educational activity, the choice activity allows you to ask any one question as long as it is a multiple choice type. This option provides an opportunity to test basic understanding of a topic, take a quick poll, or ask for group member preferences in learning activities. In this case, it is being explained as a method to set up a meeting/presentation schedule for a class. SETTING UP THE CHOICE SESSIONS 1. To add a choice activity to your course: Click on the “Turn editing on” button Under the Add an activity dropdown box, select “Choice” Give the choice a descriptive name and add the polling question text. If you want that introductory text to appear on the course Moodle page, click on the display box. Since you need to limit the number of participants that can select each option, you need to scroll down the screen and set a limit and add choice options.. NOTE: In this example, the limits are set to 1 so only one student can have the exam at the same time. if setting this up for having 2 possible class presentations in the same class session, the option name would be the class date and the limit would be 2. You have several additional options at the bottom of the screen. The more popular options allow you to: o restrict submitting a choice to a specific time period o publishing the results to the students o allow students to change their mind and update their choice o affect the availability period o restrict this poll to an already established Moodle class group When finished, click the “Save and return to course” option. WHAT STUDENTS SEE When students login, they will see a choice option, in this case the Oral Quiz option: When they click on that option, they will get your message and the options you established: If you have established that they can change their mind after choosing a selection, a link appears. Once a selection has been filled, later students will not be given the option to select it and the option will be listed as full. And on the faculty site at the top right —they will be notified how many responses have been made and can click on that link to see who has selected which option.
