ARDF Promo: How can we actually help the poor? What is ARDF-Canada 1 The Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada – or ARDFC – is the Canadian branch of the global aid arm for our province the Anglican Church in North America. We work closely with the US-based, and much larger Anglican Relief and Development Fund. All of our work is done in partnership with Anglican dioceses and ministries in the Global South… where we are helping these churches be the ministering hands of Jesus in their needy communities. [You may wish to stop here and show the short video “What is ARDF Canada?” found here http://ardfc.ca/videos.htm This short video will better illustrates our ministry model. 2 Our ministry is led by the leaders of the Global South. They propose the projects Research is done to ensure the projects will be effective and are in keeping with good stewardship With the help of these research reports and their knowledge of the needs in the Global South, the Global South Primates sitting on ARDF’s Trustees Council select the ones for which we will fundraise. 3 These are the six Primates currently sitting on ARDF’s Board of Trustees who provide outstanding leadership. 4 In just 3 years, ARDFC has been able to raise nearly $400,000 to fund 8 projects on 3 continents. (ARDF, our US affiliate which launched six years before we did, has invested millions in well over 150 projects.) Over that short time, we have won the confidence and respect of Anglican Communion leaders throughout the Global South. In addition, we have sent more than $170,000 dollars to help relieve suffering in various crisis situations. We are grateful for a growing base of generous donors. These next photos illustrate projects we have completed to date: • Our first project was a malaria prevention project in Kenya working with the Diocese of Maseno West • In 2012, we did two projects, both involving microfinance for women. These were in Peru and in Burma (or Myanmar) 6 • We’ve also completed a project in Congo helping returning refugees get re-established. • In 2013, we worked with the Diocese of Recife in Brazil to build a training centre for use in training evangelists as well as also to offer both academic and vocational training to the surrounding impoverished community • Then we took on the first of our South Sudan projects. The first was to build a pediatric ward for an incredibly effective clinic in the Diocese of Yei. 7 • In 2015, we were able to provide clean water in the Diocese of Wau • This was followed by a farming project in Burundi designed to lift people out of abject poverty 8 Our current project is helping ACNA church plants in Cuba. These churches were planted by Bishop Charles and Claudia Dorrington of our sister diocese. The churches need to purchase a second-hand van to facilitate their ministry – which is surprisingly expensive thanks to the trade embargo. We would like to be your partner in Restoring health, hope and dignity in Jesus’ name
