Customer Release Notes
Fiery ® Network Server for
Xerox ® WorkCentre ® 7830/7835/7845/7855,
version 1.1
This document contains important information about this release. Be sure to provide this
information to all users before proceeding with the installation.
N OTE : This document uses the term “Fiery Server” to refer to the Fiery ® Network Server for
Xerox ® WorkCentre ® 7830/7835/7845/7855.
Paper Catalog
Paper Catalog in Windows 7
To use the Paper Catalog option when Two-Way Communication is enabled, you must have
Administrator privileges. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools. Right-click Print
Management and select Run as administrator from the menu displayed. For more
information, see Printing.
Custom Media Type and Media Color
In Paper Catalog, you cannot add new media with Media Type or Media Color set to
Custom.
Using Media with an associated tray
If you add new media to Paper Catalog but do not assign a tray to the media and attempt to
print with that media, the job prints but an error message does not display in Command
WorkStation or on the printer touch panel.
EFI WorkCentre
Config
Scan to FTP tab
Printing
Direct connection limitations
The Scan to FTP tab was removed from EFI WorkCentre Config. You can scan to FTP from
the printer touch panel. For more information, see the documentation the accompanies the
printer.
The Direct connection is intended for downloading fonts and for use with test applications
that require back channel information from the Fiery Server. If security is a concern, Direct
connection is not recommended for printing jobs because some jobs sent to the Direct
connection cause temporary files to be stored on the Fiery Server. For full security, use Secure
Erase instead.
For more information, see Configuration and Setup.

Xerox Standard Accounting
If Xerox Standard Accounting is enabled and you print a black-and-white booklet job, the job
does not print and an error message displays (“The job was deleted due to invalid accounting
IDs”). This happens even though black-and-white jobs do not require a user ID.
Left-Top or Right-Top Single staple position with Integrated Office
Finisher
If you print a 2-up layout job with the Left-Top Single staple position, the staple is positioned
on the Right-Top side. Additionally, if you print a 4-up layout job with the Right-Top Single
staple position, the job is not stapled in the correct position. This is a limitation of the
Integrated Office Finisher, which staples only one end of the job. It staples properly for
combinations of LEF (long edge first) and Portrait, or SEF (short edge first) and Landscape;
but not for LEF and Landscape, nor SEF and Portrait. Because the 2-up layout prints two
pages on one sheet, the effect is the same as printing a Landscape job as LEF. Therefore, the
stapling position is incorrect. If the job is printed as Letter SEF (regardless of the number of
pages grouped in n-up fashion), the staple position is correct.
Stapled jobs that exceed the page limit
If you select stapling for a job that has more than 30 pages, the job is printed but not stapled.
QuarkXPress jobs
QuarkXPress documents may print with staples on the wrong side of the document (for
example, when Left Quad and Punch are selected). As a workaround, set Rotate to 180.
Large jobs with cover pages
Large jobs may process, but fail to print if Cover page is enabled and Print Quality is set to
Enhanced. On the printer touch panel, the job does not display in the active jobs queue.
Punched jobs with cover page
When you use Punch to punch holes in a document, the document may be automatically
rotated by WorkCentre so that the holes are punched on the correct side. However, the cover
page is punched on the wrong side since it does not rotate with the document.
Output tray for punched jobs
When you use Punch to punch holes in a document, you must set Output Tray to
Automatically Select. Otherwise, the job is printed without hole punching.
Booklet jobs with cover page
When Cover Page is enabled, booklet jobs may not print as expected.
3
Nested Saddle with Bi-Fold
If you print a Nested Saddle booklet with Bi-Fold folding style, all pages are folded together.
Booklet jobs may not finish printing
When Print Quality is set to Enhanced and certain settings are selected, booklet jobs may
pause after a few pages print and then never resume printing. If this occurs, try printing the
job with Print Quality set to Standard.
Paper source for booklet covers
When specifying booklets that have covers of a different media than the body, ensure that the
paper source is specified for both the cover and the body of the job.
Jobs that print and pause
When Print Quality is set to Enhanced, some jobs may print a few pages, pause, and then
print a few more pages, repeating this cycle until the job completes, slowing down the
printing process.
Supported paper sizes
The largest supported paper size of the printer is 12.6 x 19. However, the largest paper size
available through the Fiery Server printer driver is 12.58 x 19 which is slightly smaller.
Impression counter on Print Progress bar
In some cases the total number of impressions may not display on the Print Progress bar since
the necessary information is not available before the job finishes processing. In these cases the
progress bar may not be accurate. However the Sheet counter still displays accurate
information.
Meter clicks for slipsheets
If you print a job with slipsheets, meter clicks are counted against each slipsheet.
Suspending a job after it reaches the printer
Jobs are sent to the printer over the network port. If you select Suspend Printing after a job
reaches the printer, the Fiery Server no longer has control of the job and the job is printed. All
other jobs that have not been sent to the printer are suspended.
Inconsistent job logs
The Printing queue states when a job was imported rather than when the job was printed.
When you view the job log, the same problems occurs. However, if you print or export the job
log, the log correctly states when the job was printed.
4
Blank document pages are counted as black-and-white
Blank pages in a document are counted as black-and-white in both the Fiery Server Job Log
and the engine meter. However, any blank page that is inserted by the Fiery Server printer
driver (either from Mixed Media or a duplex job with an odd number of pages) is not counted
as a black-and-white page in the Fiery Server Job Log and the engine meter.
Printer driver
Communication with the Fiery Server after clearing Update Fiery
Driver When Opened
In the Installable Options tab of the printer driver, if you enable Two-Way Communication
and clear the Update Fiery Driver When Opened option, communication with the Fiery
Server does not proceed correctly.
Command
WorkStation
Inaccurate toner information
The toner levels that are displayed in Command WorkStation may not match exactly the
levels that are displayed in the Xerox WorkCentre, because of rounding.
WordPerfect jobs
When you print a WordPerfect document, the file path displays in the Printing queue rather
than just the file name.
Visio jobs
If you print a document from Visio to the Fiery Server and set the job to print multiple
copies, only one copy prints. Also, in Command WorkStation, the number of pages and
copies listed are reversed. For example, if a one-page document is set to print three times,
Command WorkStation states that the document is three pages and set to print once.
Printer info in French
If the Fiery Server language is French, the client computer operating system is English, and
Command WorkStation is English, in Command WorkStation, Printer Info displays in
French.
Constrained features
Note the following feature constraints:
• When Booklet is set to On, Punch Hole Type is set to On.
• When Cut & Stack or Step & Repeat is set to On, both Punch Hole Type and Stapler
mode are set to On.
5
ColorCal
Use Direct Connection mode
If the Network Switch option is installed and you want to use ColorCal calibration from the
printer touch panel, you must disable the port filtering feature so that the printer can
communicate with the Fiery Server. To disable port filtering, go to Configure > Network >
Protocol > TCP/IP > Security, and clear Enable Port Filtering. For more information, see
Configure Help.
More information about network connection modes:
• Direct Connection: The Fiery Server is connected to the printer by a crossover Ethernet
cable and to the customer network by a straight-through Ethernet cable.
• Network Switch (optional): The Fiery Server and the printer are connected to a network
switch by straight-through Ethernet cables, and a network switch is connected to the
network by a straight-through Ethernet cable. To set up a network switch connection, you
must have an existing direct connection.
Mac OS
Resetting Color Management defaults
On Mac OS v10.7, resetting Color Management to default values may take longer than on
other versions of Mac OS (for example, up to 20 seconds).
Cyrillic characters in Notes and Instructions
On Mac OS, if you print from the driver, do not enter cyrillic characters into the Notes and
Instructions fields (for example, in the application, click Print > Fiery Feature > Full
Properties > Jobs Info). If you enter cyrillic characters in these fields and Cover page is set to
On, notes do not display on the cover page as expected. If Cover page is set to Off, in
Command WorkStation, in Job Summary, notes do not display.
Network
Cannot disable Print queue for LPR jobs
In Command WorkStation, when you disable the Print queue, jobs can be printed via LPR
even though they should not be.
Restart for SSL changes
When you enable or disable SSL from the Xerox WorkCentre, the Fiery Server restarts. This
restart is needed to recognize the change applied to the SSL setting on the printer.
Other EIP
application setup
If your printer network configuration uses the ScanFlowStore, Equitrac Office, or Xerox
Secure Access software, you must change the SNMP settings from Configure to allow the
Fiery Server to communicate with the printer.
6
TO CHANGE SNMP SETTINGS FROM CONFIGURE
1 Start Command WorkStation, log on with Administrator privileges and choose Configure from
the Server menu.
Or,
Start your Internet browser, type the IP address of the Fiery Server, and then click the
Configure tab on the Fiery Server home page. Click Launch Configure and log on with
Administrator privileges.
2 Go to Configure > Network > Services > SNMP and specify the following settings:
• Set Security Level to minimum to allow Set requests and to allow certain Get requests.
• In Write Community Name, type private. EIP applications use private as the community
string for Set requests.
