Hi, Details of the Team Time Trial to be run on Thursday 27 August

Hi,
Details of the Team Time Trial to be run on Thursday 27th August 2015 7.00
pm by Chelmer and Ford Cycling Clubs using the Dunton test track.
It is intended for teams of four with the time being taken on the third rider to
finish, so it is possible for three people to compete all be it at a slight
disadvantage. Teams can be made up from members of a single club, from
several clubs, men, women, or mixed.
All riders using the test track whether Warming Up, Racing, or Warming Down
must wear a helmet. Aero helmets are allowed as long as it provides head
protection as well as reducing drag. It is assumed everybody will ride a bike
suitable for use in a road time trial, with two brakes. Tribars and fixed wheels
are allowed but NOT a true track bike i.e. fixed wheel and without brakes.
Signing on and preparation starts at 17:30 in Car Park “E” (marked with a red
star in site diagram). The track will be available from 18:00 for warming up
and familiarization but must be cleared by 18:55 to allow the event to start at
19:00. If we reach our limit of 20 teams we could have 80 riders on the track
at one time, during this warm-up period, so please be very careful. For the
team starting with the higher numbers keeping warmed up could be a
problem. Please do not ride around the site as part of your warm up, the
roads are not suitable and it can be dangerous also it is a research facility
and security is a concern. Most people when riding our track time trials bring
a turbo trainer as a means of warming up; there is plenty of room and noise is
not a problem.
The first team will start at 19:00 and teams will then start at two minute
intervals the Starter may have to hold a team if the start straight becomes too
congested for a safe release but the teams race time will be calculated from
their actual start time not the allotted time. Your actual start time maybe late
but please do not be late yourselves because it will probably be impossible to
slot you in later. As the start is so important in a team TT with all four
members needing to get away together I am hoping to have enough helpers
to provide a pusher off for all four riders in a team.
The track is wide enough to allow overtaking but please take extra care on
the banked sections and especially on the transitions see track diagram
where the overtaking team should call to the team in front to let them know on
which side they are being passed. In all other parts of the track overtake to
the right.
The finish line has been moved to give teams a 250 metre straight, after
leaving the last bend, to make the “dash for the line” safer.
Teams will be numbered as follows team one will have Nos 1,2, 3 & 4. team
two 11,12,13 & 14 up to team fifteen 141,142, 143 & 144. then team sixteen
will have Nos 6,7,8 & 9 and so on.
I have had a lot of interest in this event but do not know how many of the
enquiries will actually be come firm entries. We start at 19:00 with a two
minute interval between starts, team 20 will begin at 19:38 and finish around
20:05 to 20:15 now sunset is at 19:57 so they will be finishing in twilight. This
should not be a problem but does mean we cannot accept more than twenty
teams. To prevent teams travelling to Dunton, getting ready to ride and then
being turned away because we have exceeded our limit, I will take bookings
in advance. Please email me with your team name (like “Ford CC 1” & “Ford
CC 2”), the names and addresses of your riders including any reserves; this
is so the CTT paper work can be completed ahead of time. The address need
only be the first line plus post code for example 10, Mansfields. CM1 3NH.
Please only request an entry when you are certain you have a team that can
ride on the night. The fee will be £3 per rider (£2 for Juniors) as it is always
chaos at signing on it would be helpful if cheques covering the fee could be
sent in advance ideally one £12 cheque per team but individual cheques will
be accepted; in either case please make sure your team name is on the
cheque. Cheques should be payable to Ford CC they will not be cashed until
after the event so that only the cheques of teams that started will be cashed.
Reserves should NOT pay a fee it will be assumed the original team member
and the reserves would exchange the fee privately. E-mail your entries to this
e-mail address [email protected] and send cheques to Mike
Gowers, 10 Mansfields, Writtle, Chelmsford, Essex. CM1 3NH. Any juniors
who have not ridden with Ford CC this year will need Parental Consent forms.
Please ensure your race number is clearly visible when you are in your racing
posture as the lap recorders have a difficult job which becomes almost
impossible when the number are obscured by clothing. We have tried putting
the numbers on the right hip but have found the best position is central but
low down at the bottom of your jersey so it is just above the saddle when
riding (See diagram).
For anybody how has not ridden the Dunton track and would like to try it out
before riding as a team we have a normal solo 10 mile TT at Dunton on 20th
August start at 19:00 signing on from 17:30 and the track is available from
18:00. Pre-booking is advisable, as once again numbers are limited by the
light.
If you have any further queries please email me but I will not answer for the
next three days as I will be away without email access.
I will send you
Regards,
Mike Gowers.
