Luxurious Florida Residential Community Reduces Water Use
by 29% and Improves Landscape Health During Drought
“We are very satisfied with
WeatherTRAK and would recommend
it to anyone looking for ways to
control their expenses”

Key Largo, Florida, is the first island of the Florida Keys
and home to the Harbour House residential community.
A beacon of luxury and pristine, this waterfront
condominium complex is located within a hidden cove
surrounded by nature and views of the bay. With a lush,
Florida native landscape, the community heavily relies
on landscape maintenance to keep the property in
immaculate condition. And amidst a multi-year drought
resulting in a major decrease in rainfall, the complex was
exhausting their efforts to keep plant-life healthy without
significantly increasing watering costs.

With a promise to fulfill the resident’s commitment to
environmental sensitivity, the association began to
research smart irrigation technology. During the due
diligence process, HydroPoint’s attention to detail and
projected return on investment (ROI) stood out as one
of the most appealing options. Eventually the decision
was made to install the WeatherTRAK system across
the Harbour House community as the solution to their
irrigation needs. The new controllers were able to provide
real-time system alerts to the landscape maintenance
team, which allowed them to now systematically repair a
number of previously deferred problems with the system.
The results were a decrease in water loss, improved

landscape health, and fewer complaints from residents. In
fact, when adjusted for weather, the community reduced
their water use by 29%, all while keeping their landscapes
healthy and immaculate.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of the new smart
irrigation system however was the systematic approach
to remedying problems that were causing water loss.
Specifically, the detection of a large water leak between
the water meter and the irrigation system that had
been releasing untold amounts of water and costing
the community a significant amount of money could
now be restored. Without WeatherTRAK’s real-time flow
monitoring, the leak may have never been discovered and
thousands of dollars would have been needlessly wasted
annually. Since the installation of WeatherTRAK and the
detection of these irrigation issues, the complex has now
successfully controlled their costs and improved the overall
landscape health.
