Product Change Notice
Change Notice and Product Life Cycle Announcement –
MES1A & MES1B

This notice is being issued to inform customers about a change to the MES1A and MES1B MODBUS
TCP to MODBUS RTU/ASCII Gateway. We are also announcing the planned obsolescence of this
product and the designated replacement.
Description of Change
Our MES1A and MES1B products are being updated due to a supplier driven change to the RJ45
intelligent connector. There are no physical changes involved in this update. The reason for the
update is to support a range of Ethernet MAC Addresses. The current devices use MAC Addresses
in the range of 00-2A-4A-XX-XX-XX, while, the new version will use the 00-80-A3-XX-XX-XX range.
Because of this change, the installer and the discovery tool for the MES1A and MES1B have been
updated. The new discovery tool will recognize both old and new MES1A and MES1B products.
Customers can continue to use the old discovery tool in their applications with an anomaly that
new devices will be identified as “Unknown.” However, they will be configurable.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Customers should also take this opportunity to
investigate transitioning to our new MESP211, MESR321 and MESR400 series Modbus Gateways.
Life Cycle Announcement
The MES1A and MES1B will be replaced by our new MESP211, MESR321, and MESR400 series
gateways effective January 1, 2015. We will continue to produce these products until the EOL date,
however product upgrades beyond the current change will not be possible.
