Learning Sciences International (LSI) Overview
Founded in 2002 by university faculty, Learning Sciences International partners
with schools and districts to achieve significant, sustainable gains in student
learning. Our products and services include deep implementation of programs such
as our Demonstration Schools for Rigor and Intensive Support Initiatives for
turnaround schools. We consult with districts and states to implement Teacher
Evaluation Systems in partnership with Dr. Robert Marzano, and we conduct
research and pilot projects in school districts across the U.S. to study the effects of
educational interventions and technology. Our tech team researches and develops
the most up-to-date technology to support standards-based classrooms and teacher
professional development. The LSI Publishing Division produces award-winning
titles by internationally renowned educators and researchers on topics including
formative assessment, rigorous classroom instruction, coaching, brain-based
learning, and school leadership. And as one of our many commitments to enhance
teacher learning, we partner with Wilkes University to offer accredited online
graduate teaching degrees focused on 21st century learning and literacy through our
National Institute for Professional Practice.
Learning Sciences International History
2000–2011
In our early years, LSI assisted the Pennsylvania Department of Education to
implement PA Reading First and Classrooms of the Future with the goal to provide
training for teachers and to implement our patented technology tool, iObservation,
an online platform designed to support school leaders in documenting classroom
observations. In 2008, The National Institute for Professional Practice was founded
in partnership with Wilkes University to offer our Masters of Science in Education
degree. In 2011, LSI opened our West Palm Beach, Florida office after the Florida
Department of Education selected us to provide technical assistance to Florida
districts implementing new teacher evaluation models under the federal Race To
The Top initiative.
2012–2014
Since 2012, we have developed Teacher, School Leader, and District Leader
Evaluation Models and an instructional model, the Essentials for Achieving Rigor, in
partnership with Dr. Robert Marzano. LSI founded the Learning Sciences Marzano
Center in 2012. In 2014, we established the Learning Sciences Dylan Wiliam Center
in partnership with Dr. Dylan Wiliam to conduct research and train teachers in
using Embedded Formative Assessment. Both Centers hold annual international
education conferences attracting thousands of K–12 teachers, school leaders, and
district personnel.
Also in 2014, Learning Sciences founded its Publishing division to further the
company mission by providing unparalleled print and e-resources for teachers and
K–12 educators at every level, and to publish significant new work by a globally
renowned team of educational researchers and practitioners.
That same year, Learning Sciences initiated partnerships with nearly a dozen U.S. K–
12 public schools to implement Demonstration Schools for Rigor and Intensive
School Supports, dedicated to whole-school innovation in 21st Century leadership,
teaching, and learning.
2015–Present
Since our founding, Learning Sciences has dedicated our team to producing and
distributing research-based instructional models, tools, resources, and technology
to increase K–12 student achievement through improved teacher and school leader
practice. In 2016, LSI introduced the LSI Standards Tracker and the LSI Growth
Tracker to support teachers in tracking both their own professional growth and
student progress to state standards. Our technology, services, and partnerships
empower teachers and leaders to deliver rigorous, research-based core instruction
and improve leadership practices. As a leading provider of deep implementation of
school improvement systems, Learning Sciences focuses on evidenced-based
practices to support whole-school innovation in 21st century education.
