Why the initiative • Mixed populated (tribal & non tribal) area - fully
dependant on Agriculture.
• No viable Irrigation project. Paddy during rainy
season (Aman) only. Rest of the year fallow.
• Increasing production with less investment.
• People not agreed to give land for construction of
channel. Concrete channel would have cost Rs. 17.0
lacs.
• Over ground channel would require regular
maintenance- not affordable by the villagers.

The out come • Last year 1/3 of the field could not be
cultivated even in the rainy season (Aman ).
• This year besides Aman paddy, Boro (winter)
paddy is taken up in SRI method.
• Assured & judicious use of irrigation water.
• Increase in cropping intensity.
• Income generation from fish cultivation 1.60
lacs.

Learning regarding process
restructuring / reorganization • PMKSY-WDC emphasizes on creation of Irrigation
potentiality – highly essential for hilly areas of the
states like Tripura.
• Cost norms to be increased (double).
• Allocation under watershed development
component to be increased.
• PFMS – effective system but Banks need to be more
pro active.
